Andvil's DVD Picks - Special Broke-ass Edition

Post by Andvil »

It's officially official. I have fallen the fuck off. I'll try and pick it up next week.

Andvil's DVD Picks for February 9th, 2010

Really great movie, top 10 of 2009. The Coens can do no wrong.

Tom Hardy is great, but ultimately this movie was borrrrrrrrrring to me.

Really incredible. Another top 10 of 2009. Michael Jai White completely kills it. You do not want to be caught in a place when he flips over the sign from "open" to "closed".

If you liked Michael Fassbender (Archie Hicox) in Inglorious Basterds, then I would recommend giving this a shot. It's hard to go wrong with the Criterion seal of approval.

Andvil's DVD Picks for February 23rd, 2010

Good movie. It's a shame the score didn't get nominated for an oscar. Up will win anyway.

Really great depression-era movie, and incredibly relevant in today's world.

Andvil's DVD Picks for March 2nd, 2010

An absolute travesty that this didn't get a Best Animated Feature nomination. Sure, Up is going to win, but this is the runner-up.

Had no clue Black Dynamite was out, need to pick that up immediately.

The Informant is on the Netflix.

Ninja has some dope ass box art.

Glad they repackaged/rereleased those Miyazaki films, the last edition of Totoro was going for ridiculous prices on amazon.
Shame that only Ponyo is getting a bluray release though.

The most underated Miyazaki movie that never gets much recognition is Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind. It is my favorite movie that he has done.

Lot of good movies coming out. Lot on here I want to check out. Especially Bushido and Ninja.

on the 'cult' side of things:

Ninja was dope, although there's actually not that much ninja stuff in it. more like a modern make of your typical 80s 'white guy who learned secret skills in japan vs thugs and one rival ninja from his past' movie. Adkins is a beastly kicker, can't wait for Undisputed 3.

Bushido is supposed to be really good

Bitchslap was fun as shit but def not for everybody.

taxi hunter is often cited as a CATIII classic, sitting on my pile now

last grenade is supposed to be a good and bloody mercenary movie, despite the shitty imdb score

yakuza was middling, mostly for Miike completists

heard REALLY good things about that alice in wonderland, it's got sellers so i will def check it out at some point

anyone endorsing the stepfather remake will be banned from cye and assraped by the smoke monster

Were you talking about My Neighbor Totoro or Ponyo not getting best animated feature?

Everyone said they loved Where the Wild Things Are, was it as good as they say?

picked up Black Dynamite and Bitchslap this weekend.

nothing to say about Black Dynamite that hasnt bee said already.

Bitchslap was really fun to watch and the combo of babes/violence in this movie made it very enjoyable and worth multiple viewings. I could put this on during parties.
