The Horror Movie Thread

That doesn't look as bad as some of the faux-grindhouse movies that have really out-stayed their welcome over the last year or two. It does feel like a film made by film students and their little inner circle more than anything though.
Already made posts about these films in other threads but they're worth mentioning again:

All of those are highly anticipated. I can't wait to see how they're gonna show Fjellmanens mythology.
But I'm salivating for Final Solution. I might get to interview the director. It could be the best domestic horrorflick next to Nightwatch. That is, if this one doesn't turn out even better.

Looks spectacular IMO.
Also I've watched the trailer to Sprski Film a few times now. Can't wait to see it, hope someone has the balls to put it out.

Severin are allegedly releasing it sometime in the fall.drizzle wrote:sweet, what this dvd you speak of so i know what to buy

Since their awe-inspiring collaboration in Hammerגs groundbreaking The Curse Of Frankenstein in 1957, Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee were destined to join the privileged ranks of cinemaגs great horror stars alongside Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, Peter Lorre, Vincent Price and Lon Chaney. Severin Films will be paying tribute to their macabre celluloid partnership by giving the Special Edition treatment to not one but two of their finest fright flicks: Horror Express and The House That Dripped Blood.
Horror Express, also starring Kojak himself Telly Savalas, was written and produced in Spain by McCarthy era blacklistees to make use of a train purchased for director Eugenio Martinגs previous movie, Pancho Villa. The unlikely result was a masterwork of early 70s Euro-horror packed with wit, atmosphere and brainsucking, eye draining, Cossack maiming bloodshed. The House That Dripped Blood is one of the great Amicus anthology films featuring a smorgasbord of cult talent: Jon גDr. Whoג Pertwee, Ingrid גCountess Draculaג Pitt, Denholm Elliott, Joss Ackland and Geoffrey Bayldon in a quartet of gruesome tales penned by PSYCHO-scribe Robert Bloch.
Expect new hi-def transfers to present these terrifying gems as youגve never seen them before. Details on our astounding roster of special features to follow.

I'm dead set against a remake, even if it's going to bare the resurrected Hammer banner, remaking any recent movie is a lazy proposition and exemplifies the continuous lack of creativity in today's films.kato wrote:So hollywood is doing a remake of 'Let the Right One In'...how gay...
It's going to be called "Let Me In"
Martyrs is heading for the remake treatment too and if you read the following, it sounds really fucking dire:

What a night. Fearnet caught up with Twilight producer Wyck Godfrey this weekend who chatted briefly about the quite-alive remake of Pascal Laugier's Martyrs, and dropped a few nuggets of laugh-out-loud information. Get this: "I think it's not remake-able in its form for an American audience." OK. Then he dropped this whoopper: "We're doing it for an American audience with an American cast," dropping this brilliant casting idea out there, "I would love for Kristen to do it." When he says "Kristen" he's referring to that lovable and charming Kristen Stewart. I guess I wouldn't mind seeing her knocked around a bit -- but seriously, COME ON! As the great Biff Tannen once said, "Hello? Hello? Anybody home? Huh? Think, McFly. Think!"

Nah definitely a girl. The movies tagline is "Eli is 12 years old. She's been 12 for over 200 years and, she just moved in next door."kato wrote:it might be a chopped off penis..Tommy Bunz wrote: I'm guessing the prepubescent vagina scene won't be making the transition.
Eli was a boy, wasn't she/he?

Where are you guys getting this from? Eli is clearly a girl, played by a female actress.Spartan wrote:Eli was a boy.
The back of the dvd and IMDB both also confirm that Eli is a gilr.
Back of the dvd:
Lonely, 12-year old Oskar is regularly bullied by his stronger classmates. A new friendship develops when Eli, a pale, serious young girl who only comes out at night moves in next door. Coinciding with her arrival is a series of inexplicable disappearances and murders. As Oskar becomes more aware of Eli's tragic plight, he cannot forsake her. However, Eli knows that to continue living, she must keep relocating. But when Oskar faces his darkest hour, Eli returns to defend him the only way she can....

The novel presents Eli as an androgynous boy, castrated centuries before by a sadistic vampire nobleman. The film handles the issue of Eli's gender more ambiguously: a brief scene in which Eli changes into a dress offers a glimpse of a suggestive scar but no explicit elaboration.[11] A female actress plays Eli's character, but Eli tries to tell Oskar "I'm not a girl" when Oskar asks that Eli be his girlfriend. According to an interview with the director, as the film was originally conceived, flashbacks explained this aspect in more detail, but these scenes were eventually cut.[17] In the end, Ajvide Lindqvist was satisfied with the adaptation. When Alfredson showed him eight minutes of footage for the first time, he "started to cry because it was so damn beautiful".[18] He subsequently described the film as a "masterpiece".[18] "It doesn't really matter that [Alfredson] didn't want to do it the way I wanted it in every respect. He could obviously never do that. The film is his creative process", he said.[11]

there's a LOT of ambiguity in the whole movie, most of it prescipously subtle
edit: and to anwser the question, I bet the remake will ignore every open-ended subtlety and make it a cute and simplified coming of age story. It'll be like another Twillight I'm guessing.

that reminds me, I stumbled upon this piece of old news. I wonder if the project is still in the works.
גNewsג: גHellraiserג Remake Will Be 3-D

Both the Martyrs and Inside directors ended up leaving the project because of creative differences. It could really end up sucking it seems.

in case you get bored. There is some pretty sick gore in here and its kind of funny seeing how blatantly obvious it was that Lionsgate completely took over filming. plus it's got the life of the party Deputy Winston.

80's slasher fans might want to check this essential guide out.

Disagree with some of the inclusions, nice write-ups though.

Foreign slasher: I think they added Don't Go In The Woods mostly because it's a bit unknown. I might have to watch Creep again but I don't think it was that good. Not having Cold Prey on there is suspect.
Good call on TCM2 but how did they put the Rob Zombie H2 on there rather than the original?
I think Motel Hell should have made the 80's list and perhaps a a few others, perhaps Stepfather. The New York Ripper definetly. Perhaps throw Communion on the 70s list somewhere.
Mostly the gialli list fills me with geeky indignance. They picked the weakest Martino flick and 5 Dolls should be nowhere near that list.
Otherwise interesting lists with some movies I have yet to check out.
