star trek discovery is labelled a netflix exclusive in ireland for some reason. it's actually pretty tight. follows the blueprint of the JJ abrams movie.

it's an awesomely suspenseful pile of thriller cliches that i'm sure will hinge on some twist that makes no sense and is full of plot holes, 3 or 4 eps in and i'm pretty hooked tooblastmaster wrote:Bodyguard is the shit yo

I was actually impressed with how tightly they wrapped it all up. Episode three threw me for a loop and I figured it would all fall apart moving forward. It kinda did, and it goes a couple places I didn’t expect, but it’s a wild ride yo.drizzle wrote:it's an awesomely suspenseful pile of thriller cliches that i'm sure will hinge on some twist that makes no sense and is full of plot holes, 3 or 4 eps in and i'm pretty hooked tooblastmaster wrote:Bodyguard is the shit yo
The unnecessary twist at the end is pretty cringe-worthy, but I enjoyed it.

Loved this - Iko Uwais is a fucking star. Dude has the suave of Chow-Yun Fat, the acrobatics of Tony Jaa, and none of the PG rated sensibility of Jackie Chan. I'm in love with all of the female assassins, especially wire bolo girl and her girlfriendalpha wrote:This was one of the best “B+”movies I’ve ever seen recently.Fights were A+. Re: Netflix originals thread
outlaw/king is getting not-so-great reviews but i absolutely loved it. great placeholder while waiting for GOT to return. apparently the director did a pretty severe cut immediately after a disappointing festival showing. seems air tight to me now with a run time of 2 hours. here is an article about that situation:

Re: Netflix originals thread
I'll probably finish up Buster Scruggs tonight, I stopped after the Tom Waits one which was by far my favorite of the first several vignettes. Beautifully shot and realized.
2 Episodes into Narcos Mexico and it show a ton of potential, really interesting to dig into the specifics of the weed trade expanding and morphing in Mexico.

Re: Netflix originals thread
Despite its lame ending, Cam was a decent psychological thriller for a Netflix / Blumhouse collabo.

I also saw Cam this weekend, which I had my eye on for a while. Love that Netflix are recruiting films and directors from the genre festivals. It's like a feature length ep of Black Mirror with some mild sleaze and a solid leading performance. A real camgirl worked on the script apparently, I had no idea how pathetic that scene is.
Whether to Jason of Philaflava or John Podesta, I will speak my fucking perspective openly

Re: Netflix originals thread
3 eps in, it passes the time nicely and I'm enjoying the story of the Mexican weed trade evolving and coming together, but the cop side of the story bores me and feels like a waste of Pena's talents. Worth noting that the cop parts turned me off the previous series entirely, so the fact that I'm still watching this one is probably a good sign.Philaflava wrote:Anyone peep Narcos Mexico?

Re: Netflix originals thread
Really loved buster Scruggs. Out of the 6 stories really only disliked the last 1. And that was still decent. First one is a little bit much but it sets a good tone. The Liam Neeson one was probably my favorite
Re: Netflix originals thread
Yeah, the last story from The Ballad of Buster Scruggs was my least favourite. The film had some amazing cinematography - straight out of Leone western at times.

Re: Netflix originals thread
Surprisingly, even though I'm usually a huge Coens fanboy, I had mixed feelings on BBS -
loved the Liam Neeson and the Tom Waits segments, but those are the only ones that felt fully satisfying
the James Franco and Tim Blake Nelson segments were funny but left me wanting something more from the idea. The Franco one felt like a joke that was reverse engineered from the punchline (admittedly it's an incredible punchline)
the wagon train and the final segment did nothing for me at all. the former dragged just to end on an obvious twist, the latter just didn't go anywhere at all.

goldminer segment was great. I actually liked the franco shit a lot too. ironic duality of the two court systems. little details like the craftsmanship on the noose being much better in town.
I wonder if this was almost a tv miniseries.

Re: Netflix originals thread
Not gonna lie Christmas Chronicles was actually pretty fun. A kids Xmas movie that adults will get tons of laughs too. Kurt Russel as Santa was hilarious
Re: Netflix originals thread
Narcos Mexico was good, I rank them Cali, Escobar 1, Mexico, Escobar 2.
Anyone watch season two of The Sinner?

Do you need to watch first 3 seasons of Narcos in order?
