Lists, in this economy? (best of 2017)
Post your faves
I'm still behind on the buzzy prestige stuff but I've been keeping better track of action movies this year so I got a list for that
Headshot
Wolf Warrior 2
xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage
The Villainess
John Wick 2
Undisputed: Boyka
Beyond Skyline
The Foreigner
Brawl In Cellblock 99
ZVP
Other stuff that stuck with me:
Logan Lucky
Girl With All The Gifts
Spider-Man: Homecoming
Get Out (before the zeitgeist ran with it)
the first half of Baby Driver
Dunkirk (for the direction more than anything)
Blade Runner 2049 (it's remarkable that this was nowhere near as bad as it could've been and often legitimately good)
Tiffany Haddish in Girl Trip
Woody Harrelson in 3 Billboards
Lego Batman Movie
the biblical epic feel of War For The Planet Of The Apes (2nd one is still the best of the franchise tho)
Thor 3 (the Planet Hulk part)
Kurt Russell in Guardians 2
The visuals and the in-movie universe of Valerian: City Of A Thousand Planets
Jaded Luke in Star Wars
Not super great but worth a mention imo:
I Don't Want To Live In This World Anymore
Kong Skull Island
The Void

Thanks Drizzle. Hope this thread evolves into something cool. Haven't been watching as many movies in the recent years and feel like I'm missing some stuff every time I go into the Movies thread. Still want to catch Ghost in the Shell but I have heard disappointing things about it. Just trying to find some cool sci fi flicks.

Top Ten in some kind of order:
Get Out
The Shape of Water
Logan
Dunkirk
The Big Sick
Wonder Woman
The Lost City of Z
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
The Girl With All The Gifts
Kong Skull Island
Just missed list would be Hidden Figures, Spiderman Homecoming, Blade Runner 2049, Star Wars The Last Jedi, Alien Covenant, Atomic Blonde, John Wick 2, Kingsman Golden Circle
Seemed like this year I ended up enjoying a lot of the shit that bombed or was hated on by critics. Kong and Alien Covenant are legit great in my eyes. Was pleasantly surprised by Ghost in the Shell & King Arthur (incredibly dumb and fun at the same time not unlike the Fast & Furious franchise, bummed there won't be another one), even the Dark Tower was decent until the last act. Fuck the Mummy though, even a great zero-gravity scene and my new boo Sofia Boutella (seriously please put her in everything) couldn't save that trash.
Best new TV shows:
The Defiant Ones
Happy
American Vandal
Mike Judge's Tales from the Tour Bus (biggest surprise for me because I have zero interest in country music but every second of this is gold)
The Jim Jefferies Show
Planet Earth II
Samurai Jack (last 2 aren't technically new but they still kinda are)

Re: Lists, in this economy? (best of 2017)
Just watched Brawl in Cell Block 99 and I'll be damned if it wasn't the most fun I've had watching a movie this year. Loved every minute of it. The first fight with the boxing prison guard and his fist demolition of his wife's car might have been my two favorite scenes if I had to narrow it down. I'm not a big Vince Vaughn guy but the way he portrayed Bradley just worked.
I'll post a list shortly but it'll be included for sure.

Re: Lists, in this economy? (best of 2017)
Got a crucial bunch i still need to see, but here's a list of movies I enjoyed:
Brawl in Cell Block 99
Get Out
War for the Planet of the Apes
Personal Shopper
The Autopsy of Jane Doe
Raw
Elle
John Wick: Chapter 2
Split
Don't Kill It
Gerald's Game
I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore
Other stuff I found entertaining, but had serious issues with:
Toni Erdmann
Alien: Covenant
Baby Driver
Headshot
Spiderman: Homecoming
Logan
A Dark Song
Prevenge
The Void
The Love Witch
Curb related highlight 2017:

The subsequent backlash after Rian Johnson trolled everyone with his trash SW movie has been entertaining as hell. Critics were either shills or the public were seen as trolls. Loved it!
And the Bob Winestein and Kevin Noncey news, obviously.

Fuck off. Your list is filled with shit, faggot.
Re: Lists, in this economy? (best of 2017)
Did you come up with that conclusion all by your itty bitty self, or check on their IMDb scores?
Re: Lists, in this economy? (best of 2017)
I don’t need to check IMDb to know your wanna be film school failure ass is a smug pretentious ass hat with a shit opinion.

Spartan, did you fuck alpha's mom, sister, wife, or daughter? The whippersnapper is clearly very upset here.

The Bellbottoms and Neat, Neat, Neat car chase scenes in Baby Driver were the apex of cinema in 2017, imho

Props to this forum put putting me onto Brawl In Cell Block 99.
Can we talk about series 4 of Peaky Blinders in this thread? (I can't find the O.G PB thread.)

Why did Esme have to go off with the gypsies after a certain incident involving Adrien Brody & his mobster buddies?

Re: Lists, in this economy? (best of 2017)
My top 10 would look like this unless I'm forgetting something.
1) Brawl in Cell Block 99
2) Silence
3) Logan
4) Mother
5) Blade Runner 2049
6) Headshot
7) Darkland
8) Raw
9) Alien: Covenant
10) Get Me Roger Stone
A few shout-outs:
War for the Planet of the Rise of the Dawn of the Sequel of the Prequel of the Reboot of the Apes
The Girl With all the Gifts
The Fury of a Patient Man
Personal Shopper
Killing Ground
May God Save Us All
It Comes At Night
Great year for US films, at least in terms of what appeals to me. This has also meant that for once I have been able to see a lot of the best stuff in the cinema which isn't usually the case unless there's a festival I'm able to attend. So a very enjoyable year for me filmwise.

I haven't seen anything mentioned in this thread. I've just been watching John Carpenter movies and what have you. I did however run a search on "Brawl In Cell Block 99" on the strength of the title, and to my surprise and disgust I see that it stars Vince Vaughn, the biggest herb in Hollywood aside from Vin Diesel, and a disgrace to the city of Chicago.
I'll probably still watch it, though. The trailer looks pretty good.

Re: Lists, in this economy? (best of 2017)
Watched Wind River recently and it was really really great. Would put it in my top 5. Pretty crazy how Taylor Sheridan has gone from completely forgettable actor (chief Hale in Sons of Anarchy) to writer of three critically acclaimed screenplays and now critically acclaimed director in just three years. Pretty stunning and confident directorial debut, and very topically resonant as its about the investigation of the rape/murder of a Native American woman on a Utah reservation. Renner and the good Olsen are really great in it too. Deserves to get a lot of award buzz.
Also watched It and enjoyed it a lot more than I was expecting. The younger Skarsgard kid's take on Pennywise was surprisingly excellent.

Re: Lists, in this economy? (best of 2017)
lots of movies already mentioned that would be on my list (Cell block 99 and wind river were both great. Get out. Logan). but "Good time" is up there for me.
I saw "The killing of a sacred deer" the other day and I'm still trying to figure out how I feel about it.
I honestly didn't see a ton of movies in the theater this year.
Netflix had some gems, both shows and movies. American vandal, Oklahoma city, Ozarks, Mindhunters, "Creep" and "Creep 2" were fun (might be a few years old tho), "The keepers" was brutal, Gerald's game.

During a spell of boredom I made top 10's from the last two years since I think it's a good way of keeping track of things you like and thinking about why you like them.
While 2018 was a fairly great year 2019 was a bit wack and the good stuff mostly came out in the fourth quarter. However the best TV of all time, TOTDY, dropped in the summer so that redeems everything.
2018
The House That Jack Built
Climax
Edge of Darkness
Mandy
The Candidate
The Burning
Let the Corpses Tan
Ghost Land
Suspiria
Sicario 2
11) The Night Comes for Us
2019
Midsommar
The Wild Goose Lake
Joker
1917
Uncut Gems
Parasite
The Irishman
Forest of Love
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
The Golden Glove
11) The Lighthouse
