The first four seasons of the X-Files are fucking awesome, and that "Ice" episode is a great one. It would crack my top 20 list of X-Files episodes, which is saying something. Have you seen "Darkness Falls" yet? That's probably my all-time favorite.Tommy Bunz wrote:I've been making my way through the first season of the X Files recently and the 8th episode is an awesome homage/ripoff of The Thing.
Episode is called Ice if anyone wants to track it down and watch it.
They are making a prequel to The Thing.

not really feeling the cliched plucky female scientist lead or the equally cliched gruff maverick scientist who fucks it up for everybody or the explicit visual references to the original or what looked like explicit nods to alien
lol at 'millions of people may die', especially when compared to the computer simulation sequence in the og
but i'll reserve judgement and i'm still curious to see it

Anyways, dilla is spazzing out over nothing, the "theme park" is nothing but a maze attraction Universal Studios is putting up for their annual Halloween Horrors event they do every year (they basically turn the whole park into a haunted house attraction) and sounds pretty cool.dilla7 wrote:The Thing's Theme Park Attraction opening the same day as the movie so let me get this straight instead of working with the original director to make a sequel nope but u do a half ass cough remake' prequel for a theme park ride

Second, I'm going to be in Orlando visiting one of my honeydips the weekend the movie opens so we'll probably go check this thing out.Guests will find themselves in a series of face-to-face encounters with גThe Thing,ג an alien creature that can transform itself into an exact replica of any living being. גThe Thingג maze will recreate the spine-chilling suspense from the film, confronting guests with the paranoia and fear that comes from being trapped inside the filmגs Antarctic Thule station. The shape-shifting alien could be anywhere or anything. Will they survive?
Eerily authentic, גThe Thingג maze will feature elaborately designed and disturbingly real alien creatures and sets. They will match the filmגs terrifying intensity and provoke both a memorable and disturbing experience. Universalגs theme parks have partnered with the filmגs producers, Strike Entertainmentגs Marc Abraham and Eric Newman (Dawn of the Dead) to create an experience that is authentic to the film. The sets, audio, musical score, creature and character references are all based on the thriller.
גWe want people to live the film and experience the same terror that affects the filmגs characters,ג said Newman. גOur collaboration with Universalגs creative teams brought the vision of the film to life. Weגre excited for Halloween Horror Nights guests to experience גThe Thingג in this frighteningly real way.ג

If you have half an hour-45 minutes to kill, then read Peter Watts - "The Things"
http://clarkesworldmagazine.com/watts_01_10/
I'd never seen "The Thing" before (always wanted to), but felt like I had to after I read this. I dled it and watched it, and then went back to the story intending to skim through and find the "a-ha" parts...and ended up reading the whole thing again because it's so fucking good. I'd imagine anyone who is a fan of "The Thing" will get quite a kick/thrill out of it. If in doubt, just read the first couple pages and you'll be hooked.
tldr: check out this super creepy and incredibly detailed and believable retelling of "The Thing" from the Thing's perspective
