Agreed. Every other one has relied on Greg Giraldo for 100% of the laughs. Back on the Flav one he was not yet very well known, so when he came out and murdered shit, it set the mood for a night that went perfectly.

This age of roasting is definitely done with. I'll watch this but I'm not expecting much.

Oh and god bless most of you for never having attended graduate school. Your ignorance is bliss and I envy you.

To put it in perspecitve, Popeye and I are practically Star and Buckwild meets the Fonz plus the guys from Cooley High in a grad program. If you think anything we say about pop culture is overly analytical or gay, you are living a very privileged life.

Not in the sense that I'm describing. I'm talking more doctoral studies in the social sciences and humanities. Not sure how "cool" people are in pharm school. I would guess not very cool at all but much more connected to the world of every day people and pop culture.

Seemed like you were catching 'em from people saying you and Popeye are over analyzing comedy roasts. Hence painting yourself (and Popeye) as the rebels of grad school.

Or not. I don't know. I didn't think there was an overly analytical take in the first place.

Let's not forget Norm MacDonald killing shit at the Bob Saget Roast, basically roasting the Roast concept:

This was kind of the tipping point for me, because as I recall, this is the first time the d-listers have equaled the number of real comedians. Making fun of celebrities who are already cultural punchlines is just kind of boring too. Snoop wasn't good, he was just fine for someone doing something that he's not good at.
I partially agree. I definitely laughed at a bunch of jokes but it was never continuously funny. I dunno if these roasts have run their course or if they just need new blood (Jeselnik is a step in the right direction). I'm definitely over Jeff Ross and Lampanelli. The better the celebrity roasters, the better the roast. I don't doubt the situation was there strictly to be an easy target.

Lampanelli's been a hack for years. And I'm not sure what purpose Whitney Cummings serves that Sarah Silverman couldn't. What I'm trying to say is, women aren't funny. But we all know that.

I still think Ross is good and Jeselnik had a nice debut.

I thought these roasts were Comedy Central's way of parodying the Friars Club (etc) roasts from the beginning. Ya know, roasting people that don't deserve it, with people that they never met before. It's like the bizarro version of what Dean Martin used to do.

Fuck, I just over analyzed a roast.

I'd guess she's a whole lot cheaper.

As for ross, I think I might just hate his doughy faggot face.

This shit sucked. All of them were awful. If you can't figure out Jeselnik's formula after say, three jokes, you are probably The Situationallyג„¢ retarded.

Fuck figuring out his formula. He's funny. His formula works. The same could be said for most comics if you really wanna knit pick.

stop being a douche.

why do ppl get on such high horses b/c they know how something works? do they think ppl who enjoy it are stupid and don't know how it works and that that is why they still enjoy it? fuckin douchebags

one of the biggest ways jeselnik gets laughs from me is how he puts on the deadpan air of being super cocky, among other transitions b/w jokes like:

"i know what you guys are thinking, TWO jokes about suicide? well don't worry, i still got 45 more minutes"

or

"that joke usually gets a standing ovation"

or

"now that is such a smart joke"

Just re-watched the Roast of Flava Flav after this thread and damn, Giraldo really did kill it. But, it was so difficult to even watch "The Sitituation" whoever wrote his jokes must have tried to just fuck him over.

^Word. I was thinking the same thing. All the celebs have people writing jokes for them. Somehow he just bombs. I mean, his delivery and overall vibe up there was terrible but the jokes were also just straight up shitty.

So i watched this and everyone sucked, Jeselnik included.

Jeff Ross was okay in the past, on this one he was unfocused and underconfident.

Lampanelli was always a hack but in the past she was a hack who was convinced of her own worthiness. She clearly doesn't care anymore.

Whitney Cummings desperately wants to be a female Greg Giraldo but she isn't smart or funny.

I hope they all die.
