3:10 to Yuma might be....
the best movie I've seen this year.... It really is a shot of bourbon no chaser, a western with the plot of a John Ford film mixed with the grandness and over the top violence only offered in hollywood today... It stars two of the best actors alive playing off of each other like Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer, one the outlandish, showboat, troublemaker, the other not so much different but flies straight for reasons he doesn't quite understand himself, until the end. The third act is one of the best in recent memory, and I won't spoil it here but believe me most of you are going to love it... Armond White recently panned this film while praising the hell out of War so you know Icesickle will be in here dogging this... There is a great shootout at the end between Christian Bale and Russell Crowe's gang, during which the two have this moment that changes everything, An outlaw with nothing to lose and a rancher with just about everything to gain.....
overall just a really really great film that I immediately wanted to buy a ticket for and go back and watch the late show...

WHAT IS "THAT" SLOW MO SHIT? I don't recall a single slow motion shot, but I might be mistaken, either way there obviously wasn't alot.... The only technical thing that kept bugging me is the same complaint I made about Walk the Line, the CLOSE UPS ARE INSUFFERABLY TO FUCKING CLOSE sometimes...

If I'm not mistaken he called it a masterpiece of genre filmmaking....I hate him as well....
and Icesickle, I go weeks without mentioning you unless it is relevant... I recently read armond white's review of this film and expected you to fall in line with your hero, that is all.... Seriously in the last two weeks I probably have over 200 posts and maybe 2 mention you, maybe.... don't flatter yourself it's sad..

I'm glad I read only the first sentence of your post before I watched this. Otherwise, it would've ruined a lot of the emotional surprise. You ambiguously give away basically the final movement of this movie.
But yeah, that first sentence was all I needed, and I loved it.
My girl said, "That's probably one of my top 50 movies ever now," and I

I read it like a trailer that gives you too much. You didn't ruin anything in particular, but I would've been waiting for the anticipated moment of change.Trademark wrote:but unless you saw the movie you would have no fucking clue what I was talking about...
Regardless, I'm supersensitive about shit like that, and I like to go into a movie like I've been blindfolded for the past several months and barely recognize the lead actors.
I didn't say, "Change that post, homie," I said, "I'm glad I didn't read it."
Not to mention you were spot-on with your assessment. So take it easy.

this was a pretty good movie, thought people might be talking about it more.
ending was the best part, some of the shit beforehand was a little slow, or not entirely convincing, perhaps a little too simple, but it was never not enjoyable.
it's cool to see a western these days. i don't know too much about them outside of seeing a few movies here & there but i want to get into both western films & novels/stories. this was based on a short story, i think.

Okay movie...
I never really bought Russle Crowe's change of heart... which is a pretty big plot-point not to buy.

There really should be spoiler warnings just like NSFW warnings, although I guess it should be a given. I feel bad for anyone coming in here reading this stuff by accident just trying to get a general feel for how good the movie is.
There could have been more development leading up to the ending. Still a really good movie though, one of the best I've seen all year. Russel Crowe and Bale both impressed me.

This was a very dope movie, but I can see why some people say there were holes in the plot.. There definitely were some loose ends that could have came together better. But the acting in this movie was insanely good.
Best character evolution: Ben Wade (at least for the first 9/10ths of the movie)
Best line: The song about being hung in the morning
Best kill: Charlie's "Are you guys a posse?... I hate posses" part.
Most ignorantly entertaining part of the whole movie: The horse that explodes during the scene when they are robbing the Pinkerton's carriage

Regarding Russel Crowe at the end
I had no problem with Ben Wade's 'change' because I didn't see it as a change. He always respected Bale. Wanted to do right by his family. Besides, he was never gonna stay in the prison, he was scheming to get out as the train pulled away by calling for his horse. And shooting his gang, well, I figure he outgrew them. And besides Ben Foster they weren't the most loyal bunch to begin with. Basically Wade inconvenienced himself temporarily in order in order to help out a guy he respected.

yeah i can sorta see that. but the thing is i just wasnt buying a lot of the character in the first place...i laughed at him explaining how he read the bible in three days and his momma never came back and all this...
dude's whole shit was psychological, so ur gonna tell me a dude like this is gonna spill his guts to his captors, even those he "respects"? just lil things like that i thought were weird and out of character
yeah that part wasn't given effective treatment. i get the feeling that it wasn't supposed to be a change of heart so much as a rethinking of his cold rationale for crime, but even so it wasn't pulled off very smoothly...FreshShabazz wrote:Okay movie...

but it never was a change of heart or a change of character. He wanted Bale to escape from the get go, he respected him from the moment Bale demanded more money for his cattle in the saloon after the heist. Then after he met his wife and family he realized they are one in the same they just chose different paths in life. Then at the end when you think it is a "change of character" it isn't, it is Crowe saying "come on, you can still live, just let me go out there, it's over and done." Then Bale basically tells him, look if I don't get you on that train I might as well not live...Then Crowe is like fuck it let's go....

i just miss the bona fide bad guys who really bear out the adage that there is no honor among thieves...i hated that when the kid said "you're not all bad", he wasnt wrong...its just cheesy to me. that fruedian bullshit, "gee u have a woman whos a good wife and mother, im so fucked up cuz my mom left me with a bible in my hand when i was 8" shit is gay.
