Yes you should. This movie is the blue print of Wall Street, Scareface (DePalma), hell any movie made after wards that has a downfall of a great man. Yes i know other similar type movies came before it but Citizen was the one that put that became the archetype. The movie is also timeless for just that reason it is a classic shakespearean story but also tells the story of Upper Crust America.
To give a brief synopsis, it is a story of a rich kid that works hard to get what he thinks he wants but misses an opportunity to get what he needs and the consequences of that mistake. This movie is the story of Ken Lay, of Michael Eisner, or any other disgraced once leader.
This movie really is that great and like i have said before this movie with out the introduction of long lenses etc is still one of the 10 best screen plays ever. The direction is a top 25 effort and it was so innovative at the time the studios never let Wells alone again he changed the game that much. Wells gave a top tier performance of all time. And he did this at the age of 24 hell today he would still be making crappy student films at that age. Hell Cane himself is a top 5 movie character of all time. He is the original Gecko, he is a deeper cat then Dark Vader or Travis Buckley. Hell in my personal opinion it was not until Michael Colene that a character was as deep.
And in all honesty, if you don't for Citizen over anything but the top tier movies like Apoclype Now, Godfather 1 or 2, Seven Sameri, Vertigo, Lawrence or other movies of that calibur you have bad taste.
