what to do, what to do

With the new generation of consoles coming out, I don't know whether to keep dumping 500 a year into keeping my computer at the top of the dog-pile, or whether to just buy a PS3 or XBOX360. I mean, the only reason I ever defended the PC before was the keyboard/mouse advantage, and the online advantage, but that seems to have disappeared even with xbox live and especially the next generation of online consoles. I don't play MMORPG's anymore (it's like quitting heroine, once you're done you don't wanna go back) so I don't really have any reason to keep my PC in tip top shape. I'ma bout to sell my modded xbox and I'm wonderin' whether to get the new nvidia card and a 64 3800+ processor, or save up for a ps3 or xbox 360, god damnit this is hard.

Keeping your computer at the top is actually a pretty bad idea, as far as getting the most out of your money goes. I'm using the same shit I built in February of 2004.

Don't you have a Geforce 6800 GT? Is upgrading really necessary, especially when you're considering switching to a card that's at the beginning of its bleeding-edge life cycle from a card that's currently one of the fastest out?

I'd just wait. It does seem that the PC's advantages as a gaming platform are reduced with every subsequent generation though.

yeah that's just what i'm thinking...it frustrates me that my pc will only be good for a certain amount of time before i have to upgrade, especially since i'm not gonna be stashing any thick stacks of cash in my line of work (acting)

I never really got into PC gaming, last game that I seriously played on PC was Unreal Tournament, in fact I still play it on occasion since I still have the same machine I had back then.

When the next gen consoles roll around I could see the PC losing it's stake in the FPS genre, so unless you can't live without RTS's or MMORPG's I don't see a reason to have to upgrade your PC every 6 months.
