I need some info/help on how to set up a basic website

In advance.....any help will be much appreciated.

I needed to make a really simple 1-5 page website for a small machine shop I am working for. Nothing fancy at all.....but I don't want it to look like shit though.

Problem is I have no clue where to start. I picked a domain name and everything but I have no idea how any of this works. Sites like yahoo.com and register.com offer some plans and shit but I just thought I would ask here to see if people had some expertise in this. Any info would be good......thanks.
