My HD started making funny noises last night after I defragged. It is a slave drive so it does not include the OS. I shut my PC down this morning and then restarted but Win wouldn't boot. It got as far as the Win XP splash page w/ the progress bars, and when it looked like Win was going to boot, the next screen is just dark.
I disconnected the drive afterwards and logged into Win w/o a hitch. Any way I can recover the data on this seemingly fried HD?
The drive will be 3 yrs old this November.
Edit: Actually, it takes longer to boot now w/o that 2nd HD. Is this b/c the PC is trying to detect them issing drive?
Edit Edit: I was able to get Win booted w/ my 2nd HD connected, but it says there is some sort of delayed drive error. When I try accessing any data from the drive, it says there is an I/O drive error. A whole partition of the drive also looks to have been wiped. So I guess this thing is dead? So much data lost.

Your data is there, but if you can't get it to read, even at a slower rate, it is most likely expensive to recover.....
I believe Noah has thrown up some of Ontrac's recovery software but I have never used it so I don't know how reliable it is.
Do you have a USB enclosure?
I have had luck with moving data off drives that operate on a slower connection such as USB.
