Wireless connection help

I just moved into a new hosue with wireless internet, and I can't get my notebook to pick up the house's wireless network. I have a HP WLAn 54g W450 Network Adapter.

I know I should be able to pick up a network because my roomate gets the connection with linksys.

Can anyone help?

your roomate is connecting to 'linksys' or is that the brand of his network adapter

When his computer is connected to the internet, it says "system- linksys"
