Whats my comps deal

Pentium 3 600 mhz
100gig HD
256 MB of ram ( think)

My comp keeps totally freezing up on me (ctrl alt delete doesnt even do anything). It usually happens when im either watching video, or a page has just finished loading. I do have a virus scan program and my comp is clean. It just started doing this over the last couple of months any help would be much appreciated.

Also, what version of Windows? That used to happen to me with Windows 98, and when it got bad, I'd just reinstall. But I've never had the same thing happen with 2000/XP.

i meant is it near a heater or something like that. overheating can cause problems

nah no heater or anything near it. Ive lived here for going on 2 years and ive never had problems till the past few months

Ok, your log looks pretty clean....

But.....you need AT LEAST (bare minimum) 512 MB of RAM to run XP Pro. Seeing as you have an older system, I would go higher than 512 because PC133 has very slow bus speeds = slower performance.

Now, if it was fine, say 2 weeks ago.....your hard drive might be getting worn out from picking up the slack of your low system memory.

I would back up whatever important data you have and pursue getting more memory first as that is a wise investment.

Try that first, but like I said....if you didn't notice a problem until recently, my best guess would be that your hard drive is wearing out seeing that it has been carrying the load.

I agree with Squid.

Try to add RAM.

However, my suggestion would be to get a new processor. 600 mhz are slow......
