IMO within 2-3 years the top dogs of the phone market will be apple and google
RIM isn't going anywhere but up and Google is currently only making software, not hardware. So......????
RIM DESPERATELY needs a flashier OS. He's right in that regard.

The Palm Pre will get the apps in due time. Remember that the iphone had zero third party apps when it launched.

Also, the fucking Pre has a keyboard, with a cut and paste function that mimics a desktop computer to the tee. Does the faggot ass iphone have that? Fuck no.

we both know the new iphone has cut and paste...so is that really worth mentioning anymore?
I didn't know that actually, I've been bogged down in work the past week and didn't really check the Apple news.

Even so, I guarantee the implementation ain't as sweet as using the same keyboard controls used on a computer. And on the iphone you can't even leave two apps open, so cut and paste will be more of a hassle anyway.

Not that the iphone isn't awesome. It is. But it super FAILS in a few areas.
I dont see how the single-app-at-a-time thing makes copy and paste a hassle. you hold your thumb over a word, choose to select one or all of the words in a block, copy or cut and the text goes to the clipboard. you can paste whatever you copied from to any text field.

having a single app open at a time sucks ass. and so does att. i want mms and tethering, now. boo apple

I honestly don't see it being at that point very soon, though.
yea I just question the way google is marketing it...like they seem so lackadaisical with it...I still think it has great potential tho, we will see
Isn't Google's ad strategy for everything seemingly low-key? i feel like it's their actual gimmick, or non-gimmick such as it is ...
well what do you mean "for everything"...most google apps are free and of course their browser is free...this is the first time they really have to market something that people are paying for on a grand scale, and right now their marketing strategy is a little shakey IMO

I think just two of us on here own the Pre. I don't have much to compare it too since it's my first smartphone but I will say I'm loving it. My co-workers all have iPhones and they're loving it. Do some research and then go to the Sprint store to test it out. If you like it, get it because you will not be disappointed.

If I were you I'd go for the Pre. The Curve is tried and true but zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. The Pre looks exciting. Live dangerously.

And for potential Pre owners do not get caught up on the "apps." When iPhones released it had fewer apps than the Pre does now. SDK are being pimped now. 3rd Parties are working on new apps and though they won't have 50K like Apple does they'll have the 2nd most amount in due time.

Also the functionality and the sleek design is in a league of its own.

Had mine for a week now. No issues, no real downside so far, just a ridiculously great device.

you can't go wrong with a Blackberry, but there's honestly nothing that the Curve can do that the Pre can't. And the Pre is such a nicer package. If you're already on Sprint you'd be cheating yourself if you don't pick one of these up. It's an iPhone with a keyboard.

Just today while driving I was using the (free, built-in) turn-by-turn GPS navigation, listening to music, and reading texts all at the same time. From the same screen. Without having to switch applications.

The integration of the music player is incredible. When you're in another app, a miniplayer pops up at the bottom of the screen so you can change songs and pause/play without interrupting what you're doing. And while changing songs, a text came in, and that just popped up as a small tab above the miniplayer. None of these things interrupted my view of the navigation. That's probably my favorite part of the Pre. Nothing "steals" the screen.

Sounds like a small thing probably, but when you are as busy as I am, the time that this thing saves me really does add up.

The ONLY thing I'm waiting on is visual voicemail, but several 3rd parties are currently working on an app for that, so it's only a matter of time.

Also, the integration/sync with iTunes is awesome. Plugging it into my desktop and having iTunes recognize it as an ipod is pretty gratifying, especially since I do use iTunes to manage my music library.

this is pretty much what I'm thinking but I'm always a little cautious with new hardware.

thanks for the input guys, almost definitely copping a Pre now.

I bought one but hated it. I'm waiting on a good case which will start hitting retail in the next week or two. The Invisible Shield by Zagg is what everyone raves about. You can cop at Best Buy for just $20.

The Pre has more apps than the Iphone did 2 weeks after its release.

Other than the start-up time the Palm won every competition. Still I wouldn't go by that because location/signal is all relative. Both phones are incredible just go with the one you think fits you better.

Regarding that start-up time, yes it's slower but not nearly as slow as they shown in that video. Mine takes about 1 minute give or take and with the recent update it's actually a bit faster. Still I never turn off my phone so it's not really an issue.

Ha, yeah I probably deserve that.

The point was, I was doing those three things on the same device at the same time, and until now I've had to use 3 different devices for that. And the Pre does all those things as well (or better) than my old phone, iPod, nav unit, etc.

My start time definitely takes around a minute, but the only time I've ever turned it on was when they activated it at the store. I don't really know why anybody would ever turn a smartphone off in 2009. Seems like a really weird feature to review, especially when the iPhone and Pre can do SO many cool things.

Okay so I comandeered a colleague's Pre for the afternoon.

Here's my first impression:

Fuck Blackberry.
Fuck the G1.
Fuck an iPhone.

If you're already on Sprint, get this. Now.

If you need to switch, do it.

Phone is unfuckingbelievable. This is the one. Get this and you don't need a laptop. Play with it for two hours and you'll never even think about a Blackberry again.

I'm 100% serious. Everything that came before this phone is pretty much obsolete now.

For the Bay lovers out there
So last night I went to a screening of Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen hosted by Michael Bay. Great movie, I'd recommend all of you go see it. So after the movie, he did a small meet and greet signing autographs and taking pics with fans. I asked for a pic with him, taken with my Pre of course, and he actually complemented me on the device! He was still using a black iPhone 3g so yeah.....well who didnt see that coming....

Later after the screening and and autograph signing there was a cocktail party for his friends, VIP's, and Millitary Officials from the Pentagon. I got access to that, thanks to a good friend in Paramount Pictures, and got a chance to speak to him again. I jokingly said that he should upgrade to a Pre from the iPhone and you guess what...HE AGREED! I showed him how it multitasks effortlessly and he was pretty blown away to say the least.

I think I might have converted him over to the Pre side. Your welcome Palm.
