School me on Mac laptops

Post by MIKEY »

Still haven't decided if I'll get a PC or a Mac laptop. It'd be my first time trying out Mac and I don't know anything about it. I just kinda want one bc they seem to be getting more and more popular and they look pretty cool.

Which one to buy? Any recommendations? Something price-worthy.
iBook or MacBook?
Your experience as a Mac owner?
Does it suck not being able to run PC software?
I heard you can install Vista, will I be able to run PC software then?
Other problems Mac owners face living in a PC world?
Pros/Cons vs a PC laptop

iBooks were discontinued a while ago. You don't want one of those.

Your choices are between the MacBook, MacBookPro, and the MacBook Air.

Unless you're doing video-editing, gaming, or other computer-intensive tasks, you should probably get the MacBook. It's quite a bit cheaper.

You can install Vista or XP on the computer if you want to use your Windows programs. You will then be able to dual boot both OS X and Windows. But there's really not a whole lot of software besides games that are not available for the Mac.

OS X is superior to Vista in my experience. It's just much more user friendly and stable.

The cheapest Macs are more expensive than the cheapest PCs, but considering the specs they actually aren't more expensive than equally-powerful PCs.

Also, if you're a student (or know someone who is), you can get a student discount through the Apple Store and get about 10% off.

Thanks for your help.
Might just want to do some minor video editing that I'm sure the MacBook can handle, so I'll go for one of those.
Gonna check prices.

to add to red scare's comments:

i just bought a refurbished macbook through apple.com. still has the most recent specs from the last product update. looks, feels and runs like new but was a couple hundred bucks cheaper than buying new.

I'll look into that. Thanks.
The cheapest MacBook I've found in ads here goes for USD1,150 and that's most likely the lower end model. Didn't know they were so much more expensive than PCs!

Buy from the refurb section of the site. I'll never use the normal shop again.

I had a horrendous experience with my first MacBook. I bitched about it here a lot. Too many problems to list.

In short, I got a lemon and it took Apple a fucking year to give me a new laptop.

Now I have a MacBook with Leopard and it's fantastic. Not one problem.

I got a Macbook Pro a month or two ago. Shit works like a charm. Still getting a PC laptop because I'm greedy like that.
