Yeah, it's just snippets. Maze got kinda cautious after Sony/Columbia made him pay a few hundred bucks for the It ain't hard to tell remix he posted.

Yeah, I thought it was great. Excellent actually - that 'Slave of New York' track is nuts. Depends how much of a Don fan you are I suppose, but I thought it was dope to have a few more joints that i'd never heard before.

Quality isn't too bad.

those are tracks from the 93-99 era from don if i remember correctly. This ep was pressed up this year.

This shit was uploaded on rhhb back in May, yeah? Learn how to use the internet, fellas. It's called search.blogger.com

It's all material from right around 95/96. There is a particular feel to it, unlike what you would find on a collection of tracks spanning 7 years (1993-1999).

The beats are great, but the lyrics are merely decent. Don was never anything more than slightly above average on the mic. I guess that it's a matter of opinion, though.

Don is one of the most under-rated lyricists of his era. In the mid to late 90s who had a string of amazing lyrical moments. Shame many of them were unreleased. I still have few unreleased Don cuts that are some of his best work ever I think. He's good peoples too.

The only reason I could think of to explain someone not rating GD as one of the best is that his lyrics aren't deep & meaningful or structured in the way some people like - Don raps for the sake of rapping - it's skills based shit.

But anyone who knows rap or has rapped knows that his patterns, flow, delivery, voice, charisma etc etc are beyond ridiculous. He's relentless. On top of that he's got beats.

I'd rate Hazardous as one of the best LPs from '91 along with Organized Konfusion, Breaking Atoms, Mr Hood and Low End Theory.

Big him up.

In one blog they mentioned that Don has a jazz group or something - can anyone drop some knowledge on it?

fuck the toys, GFD is insain.

he has a jazz group, and he aint into making hip hop no more, he hates mp3's and how the kids know jack about hip hop and what it's about.

hopfully there'l be more from the legend in the future, he was humbled by the appreciation shown for this limited release.

First off, it's good to see Kevin Beacham posting here. I have hundreds of Time Travel tapes (damn near every show from 98 through 02), and I don't know what I'd do without them.

I've heard a lot of the unreleased Godfather Don material, and my favorite track is "Forever" (the one that Kev played during the "love lost" segment on one of his shows). While I like that particular track, I will never be a fan of GD's lyrics because they just don't do anything for me. Sorry.

Yeah, you hit it right on the head. I'm a lyrics guy first and foremost. The rest of that shit is secondary as far as I'm concerned.

But Kev is right -- it's not like he hasn't had his moments.

And he's definitely in my top 100 if we're talking producers.

yup, you have to appreciate rap for the fun of it, not the poetical aspects and other pretentious hang ups people have about it
