never heard these before
crazy shit, like early 90s rap meets free jazz with elements of more abstract dub or something.
i'd honestly wouldn't even call it psychedelic, it's a bit too harsh for tripping. i'd probably curl up in the corner and shit myself in terror if i heard this on acid. but that's just nitpicking
thanks a lot for this

no shit. I knew about bill laswell, but zorn.. would love to know there is more stuff like this out there.Memory Man wrote:drizzle's got a really good ear, free jazz icon john zorn and dub producer bill laswell were both involved in this project.
a friend of mine wrote most tracks for the third jungle brothers album and got screwed on the album credit, so most people think it's all bill laswell. but he's starting now a new new record with mike g. so there is more stuff to come.
I'll never, ever, ever do that shit again ever in my life. Never.drizzle wrote:well i do have some tabs in a freezer i've been saving for the summer.....
Granted, I had some good times the first couple of times I did it. But after that, 2 straight bad trips. Haven't touched the stuff since 1995.

are you talking about my homeboy david williams?
Agreed.trickykid wrote:How these guys suddenly lost taste for experimentation and adventurous beats is mystery to me.
I mean, some of it carried forward to J Beez Wit The Remedy, which was still pretty out there, but when they came back with Raw Deluxe, it seemed like they gave up on pushing the envelope.
Not sure what the following albums were like.

Uhh then you both haven't heard their last 3 albums. Experimental and adventurous do come to mind. Nothing mind blowing but they fuck with quite a bit of DnB, Electro/Funk/Dance type shit.Boothe wrote:Agreed.trickykid wrote:How these guys suddenly lost taste for experimentation and adventurous beats is mystery to me.

Ok I understand what you mean. You can consider messing with electro & DnB is adventurous for hip hop artists (at least for US artists) but they messed with mainstream (and uninspired) electro-dance/DnB. They didn't mess with the avant-garde of electro/DnB. Their tracks sounded so dated when they came out. [/quote]Uhh then you both haven't heard their last 3 albums. The other albums weren't very good Boothe and I really liked Raw Deluxe, I feel that it was released at the right time, you know when the Native Tongue had officially been re-instated, it was a pretty smooth album, I guess they wanted to get paid, because J Beez Wit The Remedy didn't sell that well and that was their first album since 1993.Boothe wrote:Agreed.trickykid wrote:How these guys suddenly lost taste for experimentation and adventurous beats is mystery to me.

They label told them to chill or they couldn't put their next LP out.Jaz wrote:The other albums weren't very good Boothe and I really liked Raw Deluxe, I feel that it was released at the right time, you know when the Native Tongue had officially been re-instated, it was a pretty smooth album, I guess they wanted to get paid, because J Beez Wit The Remedy didn't sell that well and that was their first album since 1993.Boothe wrote:Agreed.trickykid wrote:How these guys suddenly lost taste for experimentation and adventurous beats is mystery to me.

That's pretty much standard for anyone. Plus I read there were some legal issues with Laswell. ..man, they probably fought to get spititin wicked randomness and company z on the Remedy LP.
Surprised you don't see that, though

crazy. dope. i seriously bought J Beez the day it came out, on my top 50 list for life, never knew anything like this existed.
if only the internet was around when i was younger, i'd be ruined for life.
still surprises now and then that take me back, thank god.
funny ya'll mention acid, because this was just when i started fucking around, a lot. still can't argue with it sometimes now. and JBeez was one of my headphone jams the first bunch of times. came outta nowhere after the first 2 records, which were good but i was 17 and needed more than "doin our own dang"
