WILD WEST 2-INCH TAPES....(A tragic story)

Post by AlienNationRadio »

So for the last three years we've been kicking it with Danny Holloway of True Sound and a while back we found some old 2-inch tapes in his garage that had "Wild West 1992" written on them and some even said "Bird" on them. So we never really got around to asking Danny if was he interested in selling those tapes because honestly, we always thought he would hold on to those. But now I wish we would have made an offer...Danny recently told us he trashed all those tapes about a month ago. Our hearts dropped and my cousin and I are still kicking ourselves fro not trying to save those tapes.....

For those not in the know:
http://www.beatsandrhymes.net/mg.htm wrote:In 1991 Meen Green met producer Bird & rapper/producer Vooodu through Gumby (a/k/a Torche), another Wild West artist. Vooodu and Bird, two super producers behind Ras Kass' mysterious underground rise, merged with Meen Green to form The West Coast Avengers. Vooodu's friend Danny Holloway produced a sampler for his label True Sound in 1992, and Meen Green and Vooodu were featured on one of its tracks, Bird's "Bird's Eye View". Danny later introduced the group to Forest Whittaker, who in turn featured three of their songs in the 1992 HBO movie Strapped. The addition of Ras Kass in 1994 gave birth to the Western Hemisfear. They were often featured at Bigga B's Unity concerts in Los Angeles and rocked the west coast underground at each performance. While working on Ras Kass' album, Meen Green met Bob Whitfield, owner of Patchwerk Recordings in Atlanta. They had a conversation on the phone, which lead to a meeting and later, a record deal.
I happen to be a big fan of DAT tapes. More than vinyl (and similar to demo tapes), you really never know what you are gonna find. I recently found some dope unreleased tracks this way. With the economy like it is, keep your eyes out for producers storage units and such.

P.S. I have a DAT recorder if anyone needs tapes ripped. :gyeah:

We will hopefully be coming up on some rarities from D. Holloway in the near future although none will be Wild West! haha

A few days after this incident my cousin had a sudden panic attack and fainted at the hospital (he was there taking his son for a routine checkup). He said he was constantly thinking about this whole situation and what he could have done to save those tapes. He swears it was brought on by this and I honestly agree with him.

THIS IS WHAT HIP-HOP DOES TO YOU!

That is the worst news. Damn...

Aside from Birds productions, I wonder what else was on those tapes? Nonce shit?
