I know this is on some shit... On some Rakim, BDK, or KRS-ONE shit... But I was born in 86 so I wasn't really around during that era, as much as I love a lot of the music from then, KRS-ONE is one of the cats who I haven't really had a chance to get into yet.
I'd like to get some opinions on where I should start if I wanna hear some of his best stuff. Even though I know Krs-one's music has be getting progressively worse (or so I hear) I'd prefer to work through his catalog starting with something quite easy to get into, and ending with the more difficult ones to understand and listen to.
if you like old school stuff you will like criminal minded
if you like premo beats i recommend KRS-One self titled
this is an awesome, creative, polished album
there is some insane production on there
it's better than return of the boom-bap, which I would also recommend

Total reverse for me. Return of the Boom Bap was better than KRS-ONE.

You're a fag.
dogg c'mon LOL......cut the guy a fuckin' break...
nah i mean Return of the boom bap was my fave krs solo. basically every track on there is dope to me. I would also say his solo from 95(krs-one) and 97(i got next) both had some dope cuts on it. as far as the bdp material u cant go wrong with criminad minded. the other bdp albums are ill though. u just gotta go thru them all at ur own time and u will find out why he is called the teacher fam
Yeah edutainment is tight. Probably the third best bdp album imo, after criminal minded & sex & violence. That 100 guns 100 clips song is a personal fav, and "beef" is next level.
Anyone find all these BDP albums are mixed real quiet though?

yeah dont try to turn people OFF krs... you are killing the culture
Thank for the knowledge, i been listening to hi self-titled LP since I posted this, peeped ROTBB also but been focusing on the other one. I gotta say Kris rips the shit out of these tracks in a way that i haven't heard anyone else ever do. This is not to say he is better than any other emcee out there (although he very may well be to some people) but his style is unseen and unheard of from anyone else.

I've read your posts, and blog, and I know your at least a little bit more intelligent then you show yourself to be in this, along with a few of my other threads. Like someone said above me... You kill the culture kid.
Yeah "hold" is an insane track... KRS is versatile with the story telling. From "9mm" to the 100 guns 100 clips song to "hold" to "can't stop won't stop" he does story songs in a huge variety of ways. He's up there with nas & rickie D if you ask me.
I think you need a time machine to go with your listening experience because theres no way to put into context why criminal minded is his best work and help illustrate how amazing that was when it came out. every one else had a few hot singles only kane and rakim biz and g rap were really on krs's level. after that when scott la rock was killed his albums were never as complete. Criminal Minded is his only truly solid album imo and a few of the others have some good or great songs but not all the way through.
My favorite lp's are Edutainment and Ghetto Music: The Blueprint of Hip-Hop, in that order. To be honest, I don't think Criminal Minded and By Any Means Necessary hold up very well. They are both mixed like complete shit, and they seem amateurish. I like "My Philosophy" and "Jimmy" and a lot of songs from those albums, but I rarely throw them on in their entirety.
