Irish Drinking Songs

Post by Myjah »

This might be a long shot, but anyone know or have a favorite Irish drinking song? It can be Irish or punk Irish or whatever.

"Whiskey You're the Devil" is by far my favorite ever.

I'd like to find enough good ones to make a mix CD.

A recommendation...you wanna do some good Irish drinking to some good Irish drinking songs, but don't feel like hopping across the pond, then go to Milwaukee for Irishfest.

I don't really remember that weekend from when I lived there, but if the blackouts are any indication, it was a fuckin riot!

not really Irish but "3 Quarts Drunk" - Less than Jake is a great drinking song.

A brief list of my favorites:

The Rattlin Bog (great drunken singalong)
Fields of Athenry (another good singalong, sung by various soccer clubs' fans at games)
Finnegans Wake
Newfie Stomp
Nancy Whiskey (by Shane MacGowan of the Pogues, with his other group, The Popes..but I have a better cover version)
The Night Paddy Murphy Died
Back Home In Derry
Seven Drunken Nights (great singalong)
Go Home British Soldiers (Pro-IRA Wolfetones song, but still good singalong)
Sex and Beer
I'll Tell Me Ma
Come Out Ye Black and Tans (similar to Go Home British Soliders)
Kinky Boots (anti-British army song)
Monday Morning (by The Tossers...no homo)

I love almost everything by Flogging Molly. Some call them a Pogues knock-off group, but of all post-Pogues groups (Tossers, Murphys , etc..) I think Flogging is the best. Dave King is an excellent songwriter.

Some Dropkick Murphys is a little too disheveled for me, but when they're cohesive, they're very, very good.

Philly has a good Irish music scene, for those interested. Blackthorn, Paddys Well, Bogside Rogues.

I'll upload some of my mixes when I get a chance, as some songs can be hard to find.

Unofortunately the internet on the computer with all my music on it is fucked so I can't upload this album, but it has some great Irish drinkin songs on it.

Oh yeah, you know me and my fancy for particular Irish establishments in NYC... any place where I can barf a whiskey shot into my hand at the bar and continue to get served for hours is a place for me!

Thanks for the suggestions people. My far and away favorite is still "Whiskey You're the Devil", I don't know who it is by...

Floggin Molly is great shit too.

"Whiskey You're the Devil" is by The Pogues. Was gonna see them a few months ago, but they wanted 60 for a ticket.

If you're ever in Philly, holler and I'll show ya some good Irish times.

The show they did in NYC on St. Pat's day? That would have been nuts.

I figured it was by the Pogues.
