Battle of the White musicians: US vs. UK

Post by Funk Docta Bombay »

First: Black Americans own white American and the Brits musically. If we were to do a US vs. UK match up with them included, then the States would win without the crackers having to lift a finger. So, in order to even things up they'll sit this one out.

So.

Which country's whiteys have had the better musical output? One one hand you have the Buddy Holly era rockers going for the US. Then the British Invasion comes and delivers what could have been a crushing blow until Folk, folk-rock and the whole California scene devellops. The Brits go psychedelic but the US stands toe to toe with em. The Brits get glam but the States get bluesier and AOR is a toss up either way. The UK deserve credit for Punk but the US have done just as well with the format. Both sides fuck up in the 80's apart from Metal and artsy British rock. etc for the 90's and 00's.

So who's your pick?

You have gotta be shittin' me that American rock was "fucked up" in the 80s and that "the UK deserve credit for punk".

America wins.

Worst opinion ever. Did you base your opinion of the entire decade on some bargain-bin "Hits of the 80's" cd you inherited from your gay uncle Jacques?

Why does the UK get credit for punk?

Anyway..

60's - U.S.

70's - U.S.

80's - U.K.

90's - U.S.

LMAO. Seriously though, do ya homework - 80's were great.

Dead Kennedy's, Black Flag, Motorhead, Killing Joke, Mission Of Burma, Dinosaur Jr, Jesus & Mary Chain, Sonic Youth, Slint... Man, there's loads. Someone should dig up those threads Zizek made.

I guess America wins, but UK is a lot smaller, innit though?

well i mean....its tough because the UK has good tastes in many respects, better than the US....

for example: jimi hendrix got big in the UK then came back over. true story. nobody was feeling him over here till he went over got big then came back with record labels respect

how are people not going with UK for the 60's and the 70's - the country that had Led Zep, Sabbath, Pink Floyd, The Who, Cream, Yardbirds, and that's just scratching the surface

Neil Young is a Canuck. That probably explains why he sucks.

If it weren't for "Fun House", the last Doors album and the self titled debut by the New York Dolls, the U.K would obliterate our rock in the early 70s as they had Exile On Main Street, Black Sabbath with Ozzy, Meddle & Dark Side Of The Moon by 'Floyd and a few of the Led Zeppelin albums before they got too self indulgent.

except for a few singles here and there, doors were infinitely more self indulgent than zep

Not really. Not at all, in fact.

And the album i'm referring to, "L.A Woman", is the most straightfoward, rockin' and bluesy thing they did, although it does have a little ostentatiousness to keep it above Canned Heat bar-boogie-band status.

..not that there's anything wrong with Canned Heat, mind. "On the road again" is a juggernaut of redneck rawk.

After posting his highly-contested, rather suspect opinions, the Funk Docta is noticeably absent.

Is he hoping this thread will quickly sink and be forgotten?

Is he feverishly researching all 80's hairband material in order to strike back with a more informed opinion next time?

Only time will tell.
