Four One One - This Isn't Me

Post by Reggie »

I didn't see this uploaded elsewhere in the forum.

This was one of my favorite records throughout high school. It's been compared to Dag Nasty and early Green Day, but I always thought it was a lot harder than that stuff. Fronted by Dan O'Mahony of No For An Answer Fame, and on the drums is Mario Rubalcaba who worked with a lot of San Diego bands and hung around with the guys from Thrasher magazine.

This record is fucking awesome. If you can find the Chicanochrist 7 inch, which is 411 being funny, peept it some time.

Oh yea and the singer drinks like a fish nowadays, go figger.

Duke's name is "O'Mahoney" - what's he gonna do?

I actually got the chance to speak to Dan O. in Philly when Speak were on their East Coast tour with Better Than A Thousand, In My Eyes, and Battery. My friend Bill interviewed him for his zine. Very smart and interesting guy. His bands post-No For An Answer/Carry Nation tried to make good hardcore without trying to cash-in on his former image or rehashing music of their past bands. You've got a respect him for that.

This Isn't Me is an awesome record, somewhat overlooked. "Those Homophobic" is a great song, in particular.

Speak were much better than BETTER THAN A THOUSAND DOLLAR GUARANTEE. Their first album is terrific O.C. hardcore. Yeah, it sounds a lot like Uniform Choice (like that's a bad thing?), but Joe D. Foster played guitar so you know it's a well-done imitation. Their 2nd record, a 7" whose name I can't remember right now, was flat-out INCREDIBLE. I was surprised more people didn't go ape-shit over it like I did, but somehow it flew under the radar/didn't click with dumbass hardcore kids. Go figure.

Reggie - you would like it a lot if you were a fan of 411. The music has the same feel, but is a little more straight-forward and "hardcore".

Thanks, I will go hunt it down. I'm a fan of Uniform Choice so I'll probably dig it.

I concur with pretty much everything in the thread.
