Opening eyes and ears to new music...
I'm a self-diagnosed music fiend. Mainly hip hop since I was a young teen..
Whenever I get a new cd and I really really like it.. I burn a couple of em.. 2 or 3.. and end up using the burns in the whip etc..
Then I'll find myself chatting with someone in a bar later and say you should check out "whatever by whoever" and if they seem interested I hit em off with a copy.. did the same thing back in the day with cassettes.
I find it helps my scene know who's who and what's up sometimes..
Like before Hangar 18 shows up in my little neck of the woods I make sure certain friends of mine will be familiar with some Hangar joints..
I usually tell em to cop a shirt or something if not a cd when they end up here..
On the flip I like burning old school shit for people who are currently into hip hop or whatever the case may be.. shit they may have missed or not even realise they were familiar with it...
A friend of mine from work likes old school stuff but isn't up on anything that wasn't pretty main stream.. If it was more obscure than say EPMD he probably missed it..
I've hipped him to Redman.. Gangstarr..
etc... Now this guy is older and could have caught this stuff when it all came out but just wasn't/isn't a fiend like I've always been for stuff...
I'll be like, "remember that song that went ooh ooh ooh ooh.. that was him and De la soul.."
"oh shit that was de la soul ? I thought they fell off after me myself and I ?"
right ?
I'm always curious to what his reaction will be.. he always quotes the oddest verse parts...
The point of the thread is : Who have you championed to freinds and got them hooked on ? and do you have freinds that just hook you up with new music like "check this out" and they hand you a copy of somthing you never heard but now can't live without ?

i SEVERELY doubt "erybody" has givin it a fair chance.... its BLATANTLY different. so a fair chance requires a little immersion. but i assure you, there is a reason people like it.
