Re: The Metal Thread
Nice write up, DLG. Was an enjoyable read and I'll be giving that Torche a second listen based on your review.
I'd agree with lumping the new Nachtmystium into the disappointment category as well. Had high hopes for this one after hearing "I Wait In Hell" and "Borrowed Hope and Broken Dreams" & after the first listen I have to say I enjoyed the album. However, after repeated listens the album just became a chore to sit through. They're definitely at their best when pushing the boundaries and experimenting. Silencing Machine was, for lack of a better way to put it, boring.

Re: The Metal Thread
kind of has an early agent steel vibe too, only a lot less good. don't really get why darkthrone choose to play mediocre retro speed metal 20 years into their careers but whatever, won't be losing any sleep over it.

I've been on that site before and could never figure out how to fucking download something. I only see this: At the moment foreign traffic in this file than the Russian. You can get this file only if you visit our advertisers to help pay for our servers and channels. Click here to go to the selection of advertisers. Am I missing something?DLG wrote:russian sites bro. mediaboom has everything.
Edit - nm I guess I just had to click one of the ad sites to get a timer.

Did anyone else catch this from noisey? Just watched all 3 parts... Shit's pretty dark. Xasthur has always been a personal favorite of mine, but dude has to have bodies in his basement...

Saw this recently. Aside from the interviewer being extremly cringey all I got from it is that all of these dudes (especially xasthur) just come across as HUGE nerds who try WAY too hard to be "evil" to overcompensate for the fact that they're pretty much just extremely socially awkard loners. I will say that Jef Whitehead's story about the girlfriend was pretty depressing, though.
Also, the fact that Whitehead was on the cover of Skate or Die 2 has to be the most random thing I've ever heard:

Re: The Metal Thread
the dude from xasthur is the only one who seems genuinely messed up, but pretty much all of them are pussies compared to the second wave norweigan dudes that actually burned churches and killed people.
striborg is a huge dork. he's pretty much just living the ultimate nerd dream. lives far away from the ridicule of normal people, has a wife that supports his nerdiness, has a kid and a home and is able to satisfy his inner nerd to its full potential (wearing cloaks, recording vocals in candlelit caves, etc)

Re: The Metal Thread
I was kind of shook by a mediocre review that came out a while back at metalsucks. Obviously dude has no idea what the fuck he is talking about and should be fired immediately. This album is seriously amazing. Everything that made them so great on the debut is exponentially better this time around.
Re: The Metal Thread
Metalsucks has a policy of writing stuff to garner comments and shares more than it's an actual source of good reviews. more than half the people working there grew up on nu metal.
Re: The Metal Thread
if you guys are looking for some good oldschool shit always go with the dudes who actually lived it instead of kid's trying to recreate it.
this new Satan album is a shining example.
