Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros

Post by Rachel Hobozal »

Anyone heard their album 'Up From Below'? I tried doing a search and found nothing. It's one of my favorites of the year, just wanted to see what everyone else thinks of it.

Yes, they had a song featured in a car commercial so they're obviously huge faggot sell outs, but besides that how do you feel?

they make catchy songs.
i don't think there's as much criticism for them being "sellouts" as there is of them being possible bandwagon jumpers/trendwhores/disingenuous. the lead singer used to be in a indie dance rock type band (and apparently tried to be a rapper before that)

^lmao, for real?

i like the female singer's voice. the guy kind of annoys me personality wise with his long hair scrunched into a bun. major major hippy-ster band.

Put on great shows, going to hit the stratosphere soon since they're featured on adult contemporary stations and cell phone commercials.

Still, not the worst thing ever. Passion Pit and Black Keys are doing the same shit

the absolute best thing some indie-rawk uber-internet cool band can do these days it get one of their songs as background music on a commercial of a tech company which rakes in millions. they arent making shit on records sales anymore and i imagine concert sales only keep them floating past day jobs. Get real paid.

plus, i like the fact i can watch a car commercial and go, "wow, some marketing exec likes this Phoenix song, good pick"

The days of yelling "sell out" seem to have ended with music pirating where we know we (music DL'ers) are in fact stealing from music acts we support.

Whoever fronts Band of Horses said that commercials are the new radio, and I completely agree.

La Roux I heard about through a videogame commercial.

Phoenix I started paying attention to because of a Scion commercial?

I'm through hating on shit like that.

link me to this band.

and commercials and tv spots and movie spots are the only things musicians should be aspiring towards when it comes to DIY branding.
most of the guys i know in the music industry give the music away to hopefully gain a publishing royalty at some point.

wheels, commercials are the new radio is spot the fuck on
