CLASSIC RAVE THREAD

Post by ackbar »

i have a feeling a thread like this may have been started & failed before (?).. but that doesn't really do things justice

there's a handful of posters really into contemporary club (hipster/blog) music & at least as many really into uk post-garage (grime/dubstep). let's all use this thread to post mp3s/mixes/info/requests of the artists that started shit

- chicago house
- detroit techno
- hardcore
- jungle
- uk garage/2-step
- electro
- trip hop
- downtempo
- acid jazz
- drum & bass
- etc.

basically any sub-genre that is a precursor to today's scenes. might as well share all the classics

Yeah, I started an electronic thread but it got buried somewhere.

So is this the place to post contemporary stuff as well? I got an unhealthy obsession with sample-laden Detroit'ish House and there's still a shitload of great stuff coming out, even though a lot of it sounds kinda retro.

What about Disco, Italo and Boogie stuff?

I used to go to all these things as a youngin spending my summers in Europe, probably saw roni size like 4 times, but I've never ever played this kind of stuff at home while sober.

A lot of the Detroit stuff is perfect for home listening, especially Theo. Check out "First Floor", it's a bizarre mixture of Jazz, Soul, the sampling techniques of Hip Hop and stuttering drums.

But yeah, I wouldn't listen to 90% of the stuff that the UK-massive is gonna post in this thread at home either.

Classic proto-jungle album.
Not quite Ardkore. I posed the question earlier as to whether LFO's "Frequencies" was the best record to emerge out of the UK Acid House scene. Well, the answer is no. This is. It's also, by default, the best record to come out of the UK's Dancehall scene. And the best Grime LP ever!

I uploaded shitloads of 93-96 era dnb albums in step one's jungle dnb thread a few weeks ago but they're all down so fuck that. my uploads somehow made the thread die so if I uploaded them again here this thread would probably sink as well, so basically fuck off.

They were a staple on the early to mid 1990s hardcore scene, and were instrumental in the music's steady mutation into jungle/drum and bass.
