Live early-to-mid 70s Van Morrison material is some of the most powerful music that I've ever heard. Dude has upwards of 40 legitimately great songs/covers from that time period, and I know that lots of people are probably unfamiliar with this stuff, so I'm gonna upload a bunch of individual tracks in this thread.

As in the case w/ Hendrix, I have a couple hundred Van Morrison bootlegs, and I've hit a wall with early-to-mid 70s live recordings. I've reacquired quite a few of 'em, as sources vary. In certain cases, I've traded for up to five different versions of the same show in order to find the absolute best source.

One of the greatest travesties that I know of is the fact that so few Van soundboards exist from said time period. I don't think that his studio material could ever begin to approach the live bootlegs, but that's just me.

Here is one of those bootlegs that I had to reacquire about five times until I found a good quality source. It's an unplugged 1973 television performance from a show called "Talk About Pop". This is easily my favorite Van Morrison material outside of the Los Angeles 9/5/71 show.

I was never a fan of "Brown Eyed Girl", but that live version is great.

"Bulbs" is a great song, but it has some major fag singing background vocals on the refrain. Fortunately, the refrain ain't too unlistenable on this version, as opposed to some of the superior quality sources.

I'm glad that you're enjoying this stuff, RBG. If it wasn't for the live & unplugged material, I wouldn't even be a Van Morrison fan, as I'm not feeling his studio catalog. The bootlegs are legendary, though.

That's a great track.

I prefer the live versions of "Brown Eyed Girl" that Van performed with the Caledonia Soul Orchestra in the early 70s. If we're comparing studio versions, then I'd give it to "Mystic Eyes".
