Gojira - the French Mastodon(?)

Any fans in here? Just posted an album in MP3x and it got some pretty good feedback.

The band formed in 1996 in Bayonne, France. Originally called Godzilla, they were forced to change their name due to legal disputes. They decided on the closest name to the original, which was Gojira. Their last album - 'From Mars To Sirius' - dropped in the UK this year, and had some very positive reviews. Its on Listenable Records and, as far as i've seen, is available pretty much everywhere. Similar in sound and subject matter to Mastodon - i highly recommend checking them out.

They're touring the States currently, and are back in the UK early next year.

Download sample tracks from their WEBSITE, or whole albums from THIS BLOG. I'd recommend 'From Mars To Sirius'.

Downloaded From Mars To Sirius yesterday. Have listened to it a bunch of times already, including while dgoing to sleep last night.

Really good shit, I'm digging these guys. Very percise, intense and aggressive but with more interesting, dynamic shit going on than with your average death metal inflected band. More clinical and less spiraling out of control than Mastodon, it gives them an edge of their own.

Psyched to check out more of their shit and psyched to see them when they come to town tith Children of Bodom and Amon Amarth.

As Executive Producer of this thread, I may have overestimated the public demand for Gojira discussion.

That said, I strongly recommend checking this shit out.

The first song on this album is really good. Haven't listened to the rest yet, but it's probably really good too.

Listened more. Anyone who doesn't download this and at least give it a shot gets their metal pass revoked.

Backbone gets almost daily spin. Such a dope song.

From Mars to Sirius is one of my favorite metal albums of the last few years.

Weird, I just put two of their records back on the iPod myself. This and the new Coliseum and Baroness are high in the rotation.

Damn got excited that someone posted a new album or something. But yeah this record is awesome. How is the "The Link" bombs (that's the one you have right?)? I remember downloading it and not liking it too much.

I've got all three. Definitely like From Mars the best.

The Link is ok, not as good as From Mars.

By the way, that coliseum record you posted is fucking awesome.

^ You're talking to me right? Yeah Coliseum are awesome. One of my favorite new bands. Did you download their "Goddamage" EP too? It's also great.

Here is a Gojira cover of Metallica's "Escape" that I found. It's pretty good, Sounds like "old" Gojira though. I like their newer sound alot better:
