Relapse Records Appreciation

Post by cascarrabias »

Is there a better metal label today?

Mastodon, High On Fire, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Neurosis, Pig Destroyer, Bongzilla, Today Is The Day, Soilent Green, Burnt By The Sun, etc.

Great label.

Also responsible for the cd release of the Siege discography ("Drop Dead" demo/7" from '83 = the birth of grindcore), Anal Cunt's best release, the "Morbid Florist" EP, and the classic Converge side of their split EP with Agoraphobic Nosebleed (who are unlistenable, mind).

And lest we not forget some of the very first Relapse releases like the "Excruciation" 7" by Repulsion and the Exit-13 7".

Brutal Truth ended up on Relapse, didn't they? Only heard their shit on Earache but they were great.

I was browsing their discography. Two things jumped out:

* Adrenalin O.D. "Humungousfungusamongus" - I didn't know they reissued that. While not a great band by any means, AOD occupies a special place as NJ pioneers. Props to Relapse.

* Lethal Agression "From The Cunt Of A Fucking Whore" - This band toured with YOT which I find fucking hysterical. I always kind of assumed they weren't very good, which is why no one talks about them, but I don't have the slightest clue about what they even sound like.
