TOP 5 - THE CURE

Post by Money Gripp »

I figured after doing Top 5's for AC/DC and Black Sabbath the only logical follow up is The Cure - a band fronted by a guy who wore lipstick and inspired millions of teenagers to feel sorry for themselves.

But alas, not even I or the Reverend Paul Bearer can deny those dense and moody materpieces. And those damn melodies.

Anyway here's the 5:

5. "A Letter To Elise"

Excellent and underrated Cure single circa 1992.

4. "A Forest"

Cool song, cool cover art.

3. "Love Song"

Great song. This also earns the title of "Gayest Cover Art On A Cure Release", which is no easy feat.

2. "Just Like Heaven"

Dinosaur Jr. almost equalled the greatness of the original. Almost.

1. "Pictures Of You"

One of the most gorgeous pieces of recorded music to ever grace these ears.

'Seventeen Seconds' is the only Cure album I own. I felt bad becoming a fan after berating the legions of Goth type's in the streets of the UK throughout my school years. But yeah, its a great album. And I actually used to think 'Just Like Heaven' was a Dinosaur Jr song.

Money Gripp - as a purveyor of miserable 80's UK music, you should check my Shoegaze thread.

I downloaded that Spacemen 3 album. Never really checked 'em out apart from a song or two. I was gonna upload Swervedriver Mezcal Head. Ya ever listen to that? Excellent album, but not jocked like MBV, Ride, Spacemen 3, Slowdive, etc.

No - don't have that. Seems impossible to find these days. Upload would be cool, cheers.

I'll be back but you chose the pretty most obvious ones. A Forest being a top 10 Cure song that made audiences either leave or stay.
