Good Grunge Bands / Albums?

Post by cascarrabias »

Some might say "Good" and "Grunge" don't belong that close in a sentence. That's fine. I think some of the grunge bands weren't half bad.

Solid CD. The only one of theirs I like. Them Bones is the shit.

Like this one too. Like a lot of the early Mudhoney stuff.

Another good one.

Silverchair was Nirvana light but ok. Tomorrow is top tune. STP was definitly not grunge on 4. Three they kinda were had even more 70's rock influences and psychedelic stuff going on there though.

Try these:

Tad-Inhaler(their best album)
Mudhoney-Superfuzz Bigmuff
Screaming Trees-Sweet Oblivion
Green River-Rehab
The Fluid-Glue

That Soundgarden album is heat - how can you front on "Jesus Christ Pose" and "Rusty Cage"? That "Black Hole Sun" and "Spoonman" shit, though - I ain't fuckin with that.

I'll come out of the closet (no homo) and admit that Siamese Dream was a fantastic album, grunge or otherwise. Ditto for In Utero.

In closing, Mudhoney was great.

Yeah, Soundgarden was dope. The guitar sound on some of their records is beastly. I think even their weaker, more popular albums had strong moments. I still get the riff to "Limo Wreck" stuck in my head from time to time. Nice use of harmonics on that one.

'Touch Me I'm Sick' is a classic track.

I liked the first Nirvana album too.

I liked the early Mudhoney shit a lot. I like Soundgarden up to Badmotorfinger, then they got a bit too wanky. The first major label Screaming Trees record was fuckin awesome though. Never got into the Pearl Jams and I actually helped boo Alice in Chains of the stage when they were on Clash of the Titans tour.

Bombs Of Death pretty much summed it up.

Soundgarden, early Mudhoney, Screaming Trees >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> cack like Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Alice In Chains >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> bottom of the barrel garbage like Bush, Stone Temple Pilots.

Eddie Vedder had the best voice in rock for a while. Peep "Yellow Ledbetter" or whatever that song's called. Pearl Jam doesn't have a front to back classic album, but three of their albums (self titled, Vs., and Vitalogy) are filled with classic tracks. I wouldn't call them grunge though, they just got lumped in there cause of their style and because they were from Seattle. They're more like classic rock than anything.

Temple of the Dog (the Soundgarden / Pearl Jam collabo band) was pretty tight. "Hunger Strike" was a good single.

Yeah, STP's pretty corny. They were the bridge between grunge and the faux-grunge crap that's on the radio today.
