i really don't enjoy watching hockey on tv at all. i even have the NHL pass and haven't seen one game so far.
i do THOROUGHLY enjoy watching hockey in person.

i've never played hockey, and i've only been on skates a couple times in my life. if i've played a sport it usually gives me a much better appreciation for the nuances of it and the skill of the athletes.
it doesn't translate well to tv.
expansion has watered down the game and brought in a whole slew of teams nobody cares about.
the triple deke is severely underutilized in today's nhl.
this doesn't matter as much to me, but some people might be turned off by the general lack of personality in nhl players (as far as i can tell) and the fact that many players don't speak english.
overall, i'm not crazy about white people.

Hockey is the greatest sport on earth.
I love hockey, but I don't like this "new NHL".
As far as I'm concerned they're trying to eliminate fighting and I think that's a horrible mistake. Anyone who grew up watching hockey knew all the best players (Wayne, Mario, etc) and all the best fighters (Domi, Probert, etc).
It's a shame they're taking these guys out of the league now, when it's such a key part to not only momentum, but entertainment to fans.
I'm getting a little off subject, so I'll conlude with; Fuck your paper.

I can't see how you can watch these and not think hockey is exciting.

I never liked hockey, where I'm from (East NY) it's not big at all - my high school didn't even have a team (and we were a AA school so it's not because we weren't big enough).
Now I go to school in Western NY and I'm amazed at how big it is. Sabres fans are nuts, and everyone from around here knows the game and played it as a kid.
I do the hockey stats here at school and I've definitely learned to appreciate it more. It still is not my favorite thing to watch on TV but I will watch a few games and I sometimes get into the playoffs.
In person it is a beautiful sport though...makes me wish I played as a kid.
So yeah I think it's a combo of what you grow up with and the fact that it doesn't translate on TV.

my biggest problem with the league. too many teams makes it too difficult to keep up with the standings.uh zip zoom wrote:expansion has watered down the game and brought in a whole slew of teams nobody cares about.
good call. although im sure the triple deke is often practiced in most collegiate levels. doesn't make sense the pros dont use it. maybe because its too predictable and easily countered?the triple deke is severely underutilized in today's nhl.
theres enough players in the league for them to market someone as a star. they should've done it with Sidney Crosby and probably Jarome Arthur-Leigh Adekunle Tig Franklin Junior Elvis Iginla the year before that.this doesn't matter as much to me, but some people might be turned off by the general lack of personality in nhl players (as far as i can tell) and the fact that many players don't speak english.
i dunno, i'm a big hockey fan and its more than annoying to see it not get the coverage it used to. hockey players are some of the best conditioned athletes in the world. dont believe me? watch the All-Star skills challenges. that is, if you can find it on TV ...

It has been exciting. They are selling out every game pretty much, and there is a huge buzz around the city. It hasn't been like this since 90-92 when they won back to back cups. Fans are going crazy. I watch about every game on TV. I have yet to get to a game this year. I am going to try and go soon. Overall the excitement is awesome. They are 12-0-2 in the last 14 games and have moved up 5 spots in the standings in the eastern conference. These young guys on this team are amazing hockey players, and are coming into their own. This team will be a force to be reckoned with in the playoffs.Positive A wrote:Pittsburgh has been unreal this season. what's the attitude of fans like down there? I hope the team doesn't leave...
More than likely they will be staying in Pittsburgh. It is just about getting the finances from the state to build a new arena. The state has help finance 4 different new stadiums(Pirates, Steelers, Phillies, and Eagles) in PA in the past 5-7 years, so they are reluctant to help the Pens. that is where the city of Pittsburgh comes in, and the city is so broke, that they are having a hard time coming up with a plan were they can help. They have been going through a bunch of meetings with Governor Rendell to work something out. A source told the news that they are really close to making a deal to keep them in Pittsburgh. The Pens want to stay in Pittsburgh, but they went elsewhere to get leverage for their negotiations. They do need a new arena, because the place they play is almost 50 years old and it is a shithole. Roof leaks sometimes, shit is falling apart, and the seating sucks. There are actual seats behind pillars that you can't see the whole ice from. It is an atrocious place.

Sounds promising. This team will win multiple cups with the unfuckwittable nucleus of Sid, Malkin, Stall and Fleury in goal. Malkin's penalty shootout winning goal last night was disgusting.Random Sample wrote:It has been exciting. They are selling out every game pretty much, and there is a huge buzz around the city. Does it irritate anyone else that when Malkin scores a goal, he runs around like some soccer faggot celebrating?Positive A wrote:Sounds promising.
