great game! really enjoyed it. mad props to Mexico. they were the underdog but they played very well and were unlucky in the end. Heinze should have gotten a red card in the first half and the disallowed Argentina goal in injury time was on side. two debatable decisions by the ref but overall he was ok. i really like the Mexican manager. no pussy-tactics. they played in a 3-4-3 formation and tried to score goals. that's what more coaches should do; try to win instead of try to not lose.

that Riquelme pass to Saviola in the second half was :ohsh:
that Maxi Rodriguez goal was :ohsh: :ohsh: :ohsh:

Argentina could do better than their performance tonight tho'. Let's hope they trash Germany.

My beloved Mexico....ELIMINATED!

The was a great great game! They got unlucky. none the less, I didn't want to see either team disqualified (especially mexico). Argentina has been playing great. Mexico really stepped up their game today and I think they dominated the first half...easily.

Borgetti is a fucking monster in the air. Salcido is a GREAT player and Rafa Marquez was in form today as well.

Mexico should not be ashamed at how they played today.

so we (Netherlands) are out of the tournament. a well deserved victory for Portugal. they were far more threatening (when it was still 11 against 11, before mayhem started). we had most possession of the ball but lack creativity from the back and our midfield is too weak. van Nistelrooij and Kuijt are strikers for a 4-4-2 system and dont have enough skills ("total football" skills) to play well in a 4-3-3 system. Robben en van Persie are good but both need to learn a lot. yesterday we were unlucky not to score a goal, but overall we didnt deserve to be in the quarter final. we havent played a good game since Netherlands - Czech republic at Euro 2004 but this is a good experience for our young players.

Germany indeed plays more attractive than we do at the moment. but van Basten tries to play attractive, attacking football we just dont have the quality players to do it. with Netherlands under 21 winning the European title a month ago the future looks bright tho'.

That Holland-Portugal match was a WAR. 16 yellow cards and four players sent off, a new WC record.

yeah, my girlfriend is 100% italian. both parents born there...

and her dad has called me twice already to see if i saw what he saw...

however, i informed him that i 'liked australia, they're the underdogs, and you gotta root for the underdogs, plus, i don't like the way italy played against us...'

he mumbled some italian and hung up...

Gay. Dive. Horrible call, considering what was at stake.

Sorry Australia.

unreal...

truly, truly unreal...

how the ref has the balls to call that in the 93RD MINUTE is beyond me...

let 'em go to the 2 overtimes, and then to a shootout.

unbelievable..

and what's with them showing sydney, and it seemed like they were getting the wrong game feed, because when the penalty kick went in, they were celebrating...

long night in australia tonight i imagine...

sorry moolah..

How in the fuck you gonna call a penalty in the box for a fucking dive IN THE 93RD MINUTE.

At half time, I gave the slight edge to Italy, but i'd say we were at least holding our own. The 2nd half was complete dominance....

FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK

GOING TO STAB SOMEONE

THe referees have been utterly dismal . you could do a better job with 10 year olds calling the match. That was a horrible call. Italy lucked out

Word on all points. You hate to blame the refs but I don't see how I can do otherwise in this case. We were absolutely dominating up untill that point.....I thought we were gonna crack a goal in extra time, or if it headed to penalty shots then Italy would have the advantage back again.....you've gotta let that shit go to extra time........don't know about the footage mix-up but I was watching it live, maybe they showed Norton St, which is a strongly Italian neighborhood.....I don't know though.

as i've said probably 7 times in this thread, i don't really know the ins and outs of soccer..

that said, with the stage as big as it was, and the game TIED after 93 minutes, you gotta let that go, right??

i mean, okay, the dude shouldn't have been on the ground, but it sure looked like he was trying to get out of the way, didn't it??

every sport is like that i guess, you get a referee, be it soccer, baseball, basketball, whatever, who thinks the people paid to come to see him, and not the players...
