The last two games were outstanding, Great job by Germany in the last part of the game and stoppage time.

Two injury time goals today, good stuff.
Ze Germans finally put one in the back of the net after hitting cross bars and good saves by the Polish keeper.
Have you guys heard the rumor that the King of Saudi Arabia had said that he would pay each player on the KSA squad one million dollars if they make it to the second round?
If its true, it really puts that draw into another light. Talk about a devastating tie!!
I'm taking a long lunch tomorrow to see England play Trinidad. If they win they're into the next round.

Agreed. Beasley was worthless on the right side. It didn't look like he wanted any part of the ball though so he deserves blame as well.point blank wrote:I just wish Arenas would play Beasley at LMF instead of on the right side (or benching him).oracle21 wrote: Just wish the USA had that type of fortitude.

I'm glad Crouch finally scored, dude had tons of opportunities. Fucking Lampard did too. Thank god Gerrard had a five star goal at the end to send England into the next game with momentum.Andvil wrote:Pete Crouch let down millions upon millions of people by not doing the robot
I'm sure he'll get sick of being asked why he didnt do it
regardless, England looks awful, but they really woke up the last 10 minutes. So many blown opportunities too. Especially with that cross to Crouch WIDE OPEN
Say what you will about Beckham, but he's been involved in 2 outta the 3 goals.
Englands problem was finishing, but they pretty much controlled the game.
That was some quick thinking on the near goal, who knows how the match would have gone if it had gone in.
Lennon brought a nice spark off the bench.
After watching Ecuador I don't know who I want England to play in the second round Germany or Ecuador. If Ecuador beats or ties Germany they will win the group and England would play Germany.

Excellent effort by Trinidad. England didn't play as well as they should have, but again, don't discredit Trinidad's near impenetrable defense.
Simply put, England need to play better than this. They have perhaps the world's best midfield, one of the world's best defenses, and two of the world's best strikers on their side, and they are scraping through matches against Paraguay and Trinidad and Tobago? Not good enough.
That said, Joe Cole was again excellent.
-Most impressive player of the game was Aaron Lennon by far.
-David Beckham has been responsible for the majority of England goals in their last 5 or so matches; he's been brilliant.
-Michael Owen was a nonfactor, but not particularly because he was playing poorly, but because they are not playing him the kind of balls he excels at finishing off. He is a lethal striker, but he needs to have the ball put at his feet with a couple defenders to beat. Long crosses where he has to compete in the air is not utilising him to the best of his abilities.
-Though he didn't score a goal, Rooney did not disappoint. His presence on the field seemed to motivate the players towards those two goals. Or maybe it was just the brilliance of Aaron Lennon.
-Peter Crouch fucking sucks. Take him off.
Anyway next up is Sweden. This match doesn't particularly matter, so I'd quite like to see young Walcott given a chance to show us what he's worth.
Next round, I'm hoping Sven doesn't buy into the hype and try to bench Owen in favour of Crouch. If he plays Owen alongside Rooney, I'm hoping we'll see a nice return to England form.

Crouch is vital to England's side. love or hate him, he gets the job done. That one-touch header at the top of the box he played to Lampard (i think) in the box was beautiful. Should have beemn a goal.HomieDontPlayDat wrote:Excellent effort by Trinidad. England didn't play as well as they should have, but again, don't discredit Trinidad's near impenetrable defense.

Your right, Owen needs through balls played into space that he can run on to, they are completely negating his assets.
Terry was crucial as always, and Joe cole might be my fav on the england side right now.

You are wrong. He is an average striker, who finally converted after wasting numerous wonderful passes from Beckham. Anybody else on the team, striker or not, would have scored on several of the balls he was set up with, which he missed. He is not a good dribbler, is not very fast, is not a particularly good passer, and creates very few opportunities for himself and/or his teammates. The only goals he really scores are headers and tap-ins.Henessee Williams wrote:Crouch is vital to England's side. love or hate him, he gets the job done.
Owen and Rooney are far, far better players than he (as are Defoe, Wright-Phillips, and several other English strikers for that matter) and he has no place starting an England match if they are both fit. Nowhere near 'vital' to our team.

They were mainly stifled, hurried shots though. Trinidad put great pressure on the ball when it came towards their box, and converted many of England's attempts into their own runs on goal. They played very well.ChristPuncher wrote:Impenetrable? England must of had at least 20 shots on goal.HomieDontPlayDat wrote:Excellent effort by Trinidad. England can play better than that. Sven was lucky they scored those two goals or he'd get assassinated by a red sunburnt Brit with beer breath the second he'd leave the stadium.
All props go to T/T for being such a small country w/ a population of only 1.1 million and still holding their own and defending so well against strong teams like England and Sweden. Their coach is a tactical genius and both the players and their fans seem to have a great attitude.
Sweden-Paraguay right now. Swedish coach Lagerb

YES! Finally. It took 89 minutes but the ball finally found the net via Ljungberg's head. But Sweden was lucky.. our offensive game plan is not working well enough. It took 89 minutes and they barely got the ball behind the goalie's hand. I pray to God that coach Lagerb
