Just a quick question - could Marcus Allback get any more chances on goal?dynamite looks wrote:i'm so fucking disappointed on the swedish team right now. drunk, drinking some fine wine and really really disapointed in the swedish team! i'm probably just gonna listen to emo-rap and contemplate suicide all night...

GAMES OF TODAY
Serbia & Montenegro - Netherlands
Mexico - Iran
Angola - Portugal
I'm thinking the first game may be pretty good.. def gonna watch that one. No idea about Mexico-Iran but I think both teams performed pretty well in their pre-tournament friendlies, no? About the third match... Angola is a former Portoguese colony so that may add some excitement to it.

I'd just like to point out that an entire half of football with no commerical breaks is pretty freakin' sweet.

yup, VERY impressive game by Robben. Didn't see the whole game due to Federer and Nadal but what I saw of Robben was sick.RacquetballGangsta wrote: in other news, arjen robben is the player of the tournament so far. he dominated the serbia defense like whoa.
LOL, Iran just equalized against Mexico...

i watched most of it...HomieDontPlayDat wrote:Why? They played very well, it's just that the Trinidad team also did.dynamite looks wrote:i'm so fucking disappointed on the swedish team right now.
the thing that gets me about soccer (and apparently gets 90% of america) is this...
how is a team going to celebrate...running around hugging each other, fans high-fiving, coaches shaking hands, a 0-0 TIE????
i mean, okay, sweden was supposed to win by 2 or 3 goals...but celebrating because you DIDN'T LOSE???
boggles me..
but yeah, only games i haven't caught at least some of have been the two 9am games...and all of my friends are giving me hell for it..
the us is -260 right now against the c.r. tomorrow..
are they really that big of underdogs?
i can bet 20 right now to win 52...
yes/no?
that's gotta be a good bet, right? i mean, yeah it's probably sentimental and nationalistic, but betting 20 to win 52 is where it's at, right?
i'm afraid if i don't bet it soon (this afternoon/evening) that the line will go down with all the americans betting on their team tonight and tomorrow morning..

You get a point for a tie, and this is a round robin tourney. It was their first World Cup match EVER, against a team that is a lower tier powerhouse.the Wiper wrote:i watched most of it...HomieDontPlayDat wrote:Why? yeah Robben was important for us. he was a constant threat to the defense. it was a good goal (great passes by van Bommel en van Persie). good overall performance by him. the team performance was mediocre tho. I didnt really enjoy the game. too many incomplete passes. too many insecurities at the back. we should improve to beat Ivory Coast or Argentina.coldwatermusic wrote:yup, VERY impressive game by Robben. A lot of people picked the Czechs to win the entire World Cup, but I think they may have a couple of guys out of action tomorrow.the Wiper wrote:the us is -260 right now against the c.r. tomorrow..

The U.S. probably has the best team they've ever fielded. It's been uncharacteristicly hot over there (85 degrees) which will probably serve the U.S. better, and its their first game which probably means there will be less goals scored than usual.
It's probably the best time the Americans could be facing the Czechs, but I'll be ecstatic if they can get a tie.
As far as the bet goes...why not, you're getting great odds and stranger things have happened.

You guys ever catch any World Cup games live?
In 94 I saw Ireland beat Italy 1-0 at Giants Stadium in NY.Possibly the best scheduling/location of a sporting event ever. It was like a second St Patrick's day.
Also saw Bulgaria take out Germany at Giants Stadium that same year. I've got an anyone-but-Germany policy, so I was a proud Bulgarian that day.

I thought Angola played a very entertaining style of soccer at times yesterday.. I wanted them to win but Portugal had control of the game..
The schedule for today offers some pretty exciting matchups..
WHAT'S ON TODAY
Australia vs. Japan (wasn't brazil-croatia supposed to play?)
USA vs Czech Rep.
Italy vs Ghana
Japan have been entertaining to watch the times I've seen them play.. they're fast and pretty technical... USA is gonna be fun to watch just b/c it's USA.. I hope they'll pull out an upset against the Czechs so their dreams of advancing from the group stay alive. Italy is always one of the favorites of winning the whole damn thing and I hear Ghana is the best African nation in the tournament.. hopefully with very technically skilled players as the African nations are notorious for having. so we're looking at what should be a good game there too.
Looking forward to watching all of these today. Most exciting set of matchups of the tournament so far.

I believe that would be the Ivory Coast. Shame they've got such a tough group.it's DA KINE wrote:I hear Ghana is the best African nation in the tournament.
I'd love for Ghana to beat Italy though. I hate the Italians when it comes to international football.

I think that's God disguised as Tim Cahill...
By the way, that was a foul on the Japanese dude in the box, I don't know how they blew it.

WTF. I was watching it, Japan were up 1 nil for the majority of the game, I saw Australia grab their goal. Walked out of the room back to my desk as I figured the match was over. My friend walks past and tells me it's 2-1, I go back to see it, and it's 3-1?!
Well done Aussies.
