Nets 2022
Re: 2017 NBA Season Thread
WAY-TOO-EARLY Overreactions after first couple nights of the season:
Anthony Davis will win MVP AND DPOY.
Deandre Ayton and Doncic will be the first Co-Rookies of the Year since Hill/Kidd.
Deaaron Fox will win Most Improved Player.
The Spurs will make the playoffs because Poppovich.
The Timberwolves and Trailblazers will not make the playoffs (but the Nuggets and Lakers will, taking their spots from last year).
The Suns will challenge for the last seed in the playoffs with the Ariza signing and Ayton drafting (and Booker's health) being the keys.
The Nets will lead the league in ATS record but still fail to win 34 games.
Jayson Tatum will be an all-star and make All-NBA 3rd Team.
Lebron will clearly be the best and most influential player but fail to win his 5th MVP award.
All NBA first team will be Giannis, Lebron, AD, Kawhi, and Steph (unless voters are strict with positional rules, then swap out kawhi for harden and bump kawhi down to 2nd team assuming george is considered g/f and can go either way).
All NBA second team will be four current or former OKC players (russ/george/durant/harden) plus Embiid.
All NBA third team will be paul, KAT, tatum, aldridge, and mitchell
Tim Hardaway Jr. will score 50 points in a meaningless game at some point (kinda stolen from The Starters)

seeds-
East
1 Celtics
2 Raptors
3 Pacers
4 76ers
5 Bucks
6 Wizards
7 Heat
8 Nets
West
1 Warriors
2 Jazz
3 Rockets
4 Thunder
5 Pelicans
6 Blazers
7 Lakers
8 Nuggets
MVP- Kawhi
DPOY- Kawhi
ROY- Ayton
6th Man- Julius Randle
Most Improved- Caris Levert
I'm obviously biased, but this Pacer team is really, really good. Like every single guy on the roster knows his role, plays it to a T, and gives maximum effort on both ends. They go 10/11 deep and have the best locker room in the NBA. Vic is a 2nd team all NBA player to me and Sabonis might be the most underrated player in the league. The Celtics have too much for them, but I think they are clearly the 3rd best team in the east on paper and could challenge the Raps.
Philly has no bench, no shooting, and turns the ball over way too much. Fultz will improve, but he's not a good fit on that roster. I have them at the 4 seed, but wouldn't be shocked if they fell to 5 or 6.
Warriors over Celtics for the title. I really tried to convince myself that the Celtics would win, but I just can't do it. They are the 2nd best team in the league to me though. Brad Stevens and that much talent is a problem for the league.

Re: 2017 NBA Season Thread
probably should have named AD the MVP, but Kawhi looks real good so far, big win for the Raps in a fantastic game with the Celts last night.
Bucks beat down my Pacers too and looked really good doing it. I may have to revise the seeds and raise them to 3, dropping the 'cers to 4 and '6ers to 5.
This rookie class looks amazing as well, Ayton and Doncic are obvious, but Trae Young, Jaren Jackson, Shai GA, Miles Bridges, Knox, Bamba, and Bagley are already flashing. Wendell Carter struggled against Embiid, but won the starting gig game one.
Nets in town tonight! Can't wait to watch LeVert and Jarrett Allen in person.

I can't even explain what it feels like to cheer for a guy like Kawhi. Easily the best player the raptors have ever had.
Re: 2017 NBA Season Thread
Can we take a poll on odds of Kawhi staying?
I’m thinking he’s 55% right now but if things keep going well it could be 65% or higher by end of season.

Re: 2017 NBA Season Thread
Any of ya'll been watching A Basketball Story on ESPN? It's a 20 part doc about the history of the game. Each episode is 2 hrs long and is packed with basketball stories and history. I've watched the 6 that have aired so far and they're all riveting. I guess they're streaming on the ESPN app or something, but I've got them on DVR.
Re: 2017 NBA Season Thread
steph drops 51 in 3 quarters, kd drops 25 in the 4th outscoring the entire opposing team, and now klay hits 14 record-breaking threes in 3 quarters

I feel like he might retire, everyone had their chance and passed.
On another note, feel awful about Caris LeVert, guy was absolutely killing it and has a horrible injury history. Just really sucks, hopefully he gets healthy soon.

In response to a ho-hum question about the state of the Spurs, Pop took the chance to lament the aesthetic of the NBA in 2018.
"There's no basketball anymore, there's no beauty in it," he said.
It was a startling statement from the best coach of the era, whose own championship team from just five seasons ago played arguably the most beautiful version of the sport we've ever seen.
Pop honed in: "Now you look at a stat sheet after a game and the first thing you look at is the 3s. If you made 3s and the other team didn't, you win. You don't even look at the rebounds or the turnovers or how much transition D was involved. You don't even care.
"These days there's such an emphasis on the 3 because it's proven to be analytically correct

Tell Pop to watch the Pacers and be a better GM and don’t mishandle players/injuries. He deserves that Aldridge/Derozan life.

Re: 2017 NBA Season Thread
Jealous of Sixers fans right now (especially since my boy Dipo might never be the same again). That Tobias Harris trade is perfect for them. They EASILY have the 2nd best starting five in the NBA and I'll be shocked if they don't make it to the finals. They still likely can't hang with the Warriors at full strength, but if the Warriors are at less than full strength come June, Philly is a serious threat.
This trade deadline is pretty damn fascinating, but it's all about one player. With the way the Pelicans are treating the Lakers offers, I highly doubt a deal gets done because no teams are going to come close to the Lakers current offer (even if you think the Lakers young pups are mediocre (they are)).
I hope to see Conley traded to Utah, they'd still be a stud stretch four away from being a contender, but a Conley, Mitchell, Gobert, Ingles core would be a lot of fun.

NBA ratings are down 27% so far this year.
They really got to do something definitive about this load management shit in the upcoming offseason.
