It's never been completely confirmed, but I've always heard that it was fake. Basically, Rome's t.v. show was struggling and they staged the fight to get people to tune in.Blockhead wrote:is it definitely staged? i saw that a long time ago but never gave much thought to its realness. i mean, rome is a prick, i could see a hyped up athlete wanting to fuck him up.

Why do you think Sherlock?Reason wrote:why would they stage somethign like that?
Lemme guess, you think Andy Kaufmann and Jerry the King Lawler really hated each other and that Joaquin Phoenix has no idea what he's doing.

i meant why would they stage something like that precisely b/c they aren't on kaufmann's or even phoenix's level. they're fucking sports guys. What, now i have to watch sports interviews as if they are reality shows that have scripted fights?

top 10 most awkward espn interviews
from a 2004 article:
"It was absolutely real," Rome attests. "Do you think in a million years that I would have consented to something like that? It absolutely was not for ratings. It was not set up. Everett and I had a relationship that was not a very good one."
Rome says he had told Everett before taping the show that he was going to call him Chrissie and that the former quarterback agreed to the interview anyway.
Rome has always maintained it was real. I (and many others) just don't believe that was the case.HomeSkillet wrote: from a 2004 article:"It was absolutely real," Rome attests.
