Copa America 2007, anyone?

Post by Chale Holmes »

Have any of you been watching any of these games? Peru upset Uruguay 3-0 in the first game! That was completely unexpected...then you got Chile being completely dominated by Ecuador and end up coming from behind to steal the three points in a 3-2 win. Unbelievable! T

Then of course you had Mexico beating out Brazil 2-0 last night. Mexico looked good in the first half. Granted, brazil didn't have kaka or ronaldinho, but to Mexico's credit they were missing four of their better players and had a young team on the pitch. First half was controlled by Mexico and the goals scored were good individual efforts. However, brazil came out in the second half with pressure from all directions but the mexican defense held it together and credit goes to Fransisco Ochoa who was a fucking BEAST in the net.

I'm biased...so fucking what?

I'm glad that Mexican team didn't show up in the Gold Cup final. They looked great last night and that goalie was stopping everything.

I don't have GolTV, so I have to watch all the games with Spanish audio.

All the games can be watched online at www.univision.com/content/content.jhtml?cid=1215239

Tonight is USA vs. Argentina at 8:45 est.

holy shit. this is amazing. hope it works!

watched the bra/mex highlights, first brazil 'goal' dude was onsides but can't blame the linesman for that. both mexico's goals were outstanding, especially the first, if i was that defender from brazil i would hang up my jersey. mexico's goalie was fucking awesome too. seems like some real good games to start off, though i'm not that excited for any others. i also wonder why the US doesn't have their better players, i mean, shouldn't they too gain the valuable experience of playing better competition instead of just getting blindsided when they reach the world cup? it's like they feel they're already too good or something. must be a club vs. national team issue, but all their clubs suck so what gives?
what's the score tonight, argentina vs. US?
3-0 before they ease off with max points? 5-0? can't wait.

I'm excited........get to see some good US & brazil youngsters. I don't think the US will get out of the group stages, but as long as they only lose to ARG i'll be happy

good first half for the US, they had a lead, their confidence should be pretty high, def something to build off. they're playing hard, hustling, defense is holding up. too bad the first 5 seconds laid out the entire US gameplan (which hasn't changed for years), pass back, pass back, pass back to goalie, kick it really far, 'oh, we don't want possession, you go ahead and take it, we'll just get tired and run around waiting for the lucky goal, that's just what we do. and dear god, johnson, you're a forward, it's your job to take defenders on, one on one, one on two, trap the ball, turn, and run at them. every time the ball is at his feet he seems to forget his 15+ years of training and morphs into some grown man with the motor skills of a toddler, 'oh shit, my feet, where are my feet!', someone slap him!

Honesty it could have been worst

The US should have never brought a C team to Copa

While I'm not surprised, it was 1-1 at half and was obviously hoping for a better result.

Still...with the squad they brought Argentina SHOULD win the thing.

I was pleased with USA's first half performance....but the young team they brought with them lacks experience.....they should have brought there A team against a STACKED Argentina.

For those of you wanting to catch the games in english....search TVU Networks and dl the FREE software....you can then access GolTV on there and watch the games in English.

I was so hyped that i would be able to catch all the games on Univision.com but then it said "only available to those in the US and Puerto Rico"....and i'm in Spain. Spanish commentating is so much more exciting.!! GOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

mexico is looking good, taking advantage of all their chances, not being dominant, but showing good organization and poise. their defense is a bit shaky, they're pretty compact in the box but have given up a lot of long shots (which is a natural balance), and when other teams get open looks, the keeper, i forget his name, has been lights fucking out! coming up BIG against brasil and ecuador. mex v. argentina, whenever it happens, is going to be great.

why? the lowest they finished in it since 1993 (when they was first invited to play) was the quarterfinals. 2 second place finishes, 2 third place finishes. they been poised to break through one of these years.

it would be  status if the USA won

US looked good. their confidence is really building. too bad they still lost 3-1. and johnson, my god man. he beat one guy near the goal line then forgot the ball, otherwise i still haven't seen him take a man on and go by him. he has no touch. he can't win in the air. and he doesn't even look like he cares. he must be the best option up there, and that's just sad. it baffles me to see that our players still don't seem to grasp the concept that the better ball you play your teammate, the easier it is for him to trap, and the easier it is to play quicker and keep possession. they just hit these shitty bouncing passes, either too hard or too soft, to the wrong foot and into the wrong space thinking their athleticism will cancel this out. c'mon you pussies, sack up and learn from the rest of the world.

LOL at crespo pulling a hammy kicking that penalty. argentina up 3-1 at half, riquelme is the man, 2 goals. colombia stands no chance. but should be a toss up between them and the US, doubt anyone will be watching tho.

I totally agree about Johnson, and the passing. If you blast it to a guy 10 yard in front of you there is no way he is going to trap it, no matter who it was.

I'd like to see Bob Bradley give Hercules Gomez, and Charlie Davies a chance up front. We already know what taylor and johnson can do...nothing, why not give someone else a chance.

I have been, for the most part, pleased with the play of Benny Feilhaber.

yes, yes he is  He's really hit some serious form this summer with Boca and the National team, just hope that he takes it back with him to Europe next season.

I'd have to agree with Sut. The USA is a young team with six of the players just getting their 10th CAP. They did play well but they're just so unexperienced thus far. Feilhaber has really fucking impressed me....Twellman has proved that he can be dominant in the MLS and that's it.

really tho, a huge bright spot for the US. i guess he plays in germany which is what i just read in this article:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/w ... index.html

on point for the most part. talks about the Copa America, Adu and some other things. i youtubed adu hoping to see something promising since i've only watched him a few times, but no, pretty disappointing. despite some tight goals against poland a few days ago his finishing on a whole is horrible. his jukes mean nothing to experienced players and you can clearly see he's the product of the US system. please, go to europe.

ive never been on the freddy adu bandwagon, but he killed shit in the poland game. i was most impressed with his passing and vision...id never seen him do that sorta stuff before...
usually when ive seen him play, he's head down, dribbling at people.

i havent seen eddie johnson in the copa, but im sayin...dude has promise and potential...maradona said he reminds him of eusebio..thats :ohsh: praise right there..he needs to go to europe though.word is theres at least one spanish team on his trail...hope he goes.

I was all about Eddie when he splashed on the scene. Tall, fast, and scoring goals......aaaaannnnddd then he didn't score another international goal for years. People learned that all he is good at is running onto through balls, has no touch, one foot, and pretty much just a product of mls marketing. fuck him.

With us already being eliminated from the quarterfinals it'll be interesting what, if any, changes Bob Bradley makes to the lineup. I'm still waiting to see Charlie Davies.

he just got subbed out. and after watching this game, eddie johnson is the plague of this team, killing any chances, destroying the team's confidence in our ability to score goals, taking counter-attacks, turning back and letting their entire defense get back. dude has severely pissed me off, go eat an MLS dick, you truly, truly suck.

i doubt maradona could see johnson through his mountains of argentinian steak and coke.

team usa was straight up embarassin. didn't manage a single point in the group stage.

i think they should drop eddie johnson, atleast for a while. he can score all the goals in the world in mls competition but i never see dude step up in int'l competitions. maradona was one of the best players of all time, no doubt, but i'm not sure he was comparin johnson to eusebio or just sayin johnson looks like eusebio. even if johnson learns how to dribble and score, i don't think he deserves to be in the same sentence.

So we all know that US brought their C squad and this tourney was for those younger cats to get some experience in this type of atmosphere.

Moving on, Mexico fucking destroyed Paraguay last night. The red card that paraguay received in the first three minutes was the key to the slaughter that came forth.
