do you prefer UFC or boxing?
in the past decade, we've seen the decline in popularity of boxing while the rise of ultimate/pride fighting has increased. in the past couple of PPV fights, the boxing purists have felt threatened by the ever increasing popularity of ultimate fighting to the point where they have dissed it during their telecasts, inadvertently giving UFC more shine. Now with UFC starting to corner the market on fighters and buying out Pride, ultimate fighting seems to be on a collision course with boxing and in many people's views, it even has surpassed boxing.
what do you think?

I love boxing but i like the UFC better. I feel like i get more entertainment for my buck from a UFC event (last night was a GREAT PPV). I love both sports but if i had to choose between a major boxing and a major MMA PPV and a major boxing ppv give me the MMA anyday.

Who cares? It's the fact that there are so many styles in MMA that make it so dynamic. It's more exciting, although less technically excellent, than any of the single disciplines like boxing, submission grappling, judo, etc.Orale Holmes wrote:Some of theses boxers could fight in the UFC. I voted for MMA. A great boxing match is always going to be better than a great MMA fight to me, but great boxing matches are a freaking rarity, and take months upon months to set up as boxers are spoiled now with money as the highest priority, not competition, it's a joke. Then you add in the fact that MMA usually has much more satisfying conclusions and is just a much more dynamic combat sport...it's not even close.

I enjoy MMA a lot, but I prefer boxing. I know boxing isn't what it used to be, but to watch a fight like The Rumble In The Jungle gives me goosebumps...and I dont know if MMA would ever give me that same feeling. Also, I feel that boxing is a lot more controlled, where I find most MMA fights to be wreckless and chaotic (but MMA fans seem to enjoy that).
Apples & oranges really,
they satisfy the two extremes of the fight-sport spectrum
the technicality of the sweet science
and
the infinite possibilities and variables that go into a mixed martial arts bout
That's sort of why kickboxing hit a plateau. Because it's right in the middle. People don't like anything middle of the road, they want one extreme or the other.
disclaimer: i <3 kickboxing and at times prefer it to both boxing AND mma

My only complaint about the current state of things is that there will most likely never be huge tournaments like UFC used to run back in the day ever again. There is way too much money involved now for that format to exist. Its a shame. Who knows what is gonna happen to PRIDE now...

Are you serious? Numerous MMA fighters are also world class Muay Thai and Kickboxing fighters.... Yes it's not regular boxing but it's still a form of boxing so the statement you made is untrue.....
I went with MMA no question....... it's not even comparable right now....
Also did any of you know that former wrestler Brock Lesner has gotten into MMA..... his first fight is comin up against 7'2 Korean dude who's won K-1..... I forget his name
