let's talk about old(er) school Cam'ron and how dope these albums are, especially in comparison to the crap he's been releasing lately

SDE is one of the grimiest, darkest, downright nasty albums of all-time. It gets my vote. My favorite Cam'Ron album.

Cam's Rocafella-era slow flow >> any of his other styles.
But SDE is quite possibly better than his other albums. "That's Me" is wowzers.
Don't think I ever listened to Confessions. The cover is wild homo and Canibus was overshadowing everything back then.

Don't like any of his albums. I remember when Confessions came out and it was so bad compared with all the great music that was around at the time...

not even close
Its a sick ass album, sure he spits some street shit, but its nowhere NEAR the grimiest or darkest.. The nature of the album, ie. its production, is not really grimy/dark at all. Put this against some albums that actually ARE grimy as fuck and you can easily see the difference. Put this again some old mobb deep or wu and it doesnt really compare in terms of grimyness.

Maybe all-time was a stretch, but I said "one of" not "thee" or even "top five". But I definitely think for the era it came out (2000), it was one of the grimiest and darkest. I think the first two Mobb albums, Cuban Linx, 36 Chambers, Return to the 36 Chambers, Firing Squad, etc are grimier (and better on the whole), but most of them actually aren't as dark. I think when people use the term "grimy" they often add these associations of sample based production with strings and off-key pianos and crispy drums. Dont' get me wrong that shit is grimy, but so is sayin' you're gonna kill a bitch, then rape her, then bury the skirt.
I think one of the reasons people like the later Cam shit better, is because he's funnier, more upbeat, and probably generally more entertaining. But on SDE there's still some of the same Killa Cam that used to go toe to toe with cats like Big L, Bloodshed, and Murda Ma$e with the snuffin' Jesus raps. I don't think anybody has ever sounded more apathetic on the mic than Cam sounds on this album. All he wants to do is fuck, sell crack, and kill people. He hates his own mother. It doesn't get much grimier than that.

when i first bought these two albums i enjoyed them and still can go back listen to a majority of the cuts cuz they are choice. i would have to go with SDE tho.
back in the day i couldn't tell the difference between cam and jimmy cuz jimmy rhymed exactly like cam. prolly no coincidence.

We destroy niggaz, need advice, cause I heard em sayin Jesus Christ
You should see the sight, cookin ox-tail, peas and rice
Makin about a G a night, they can't read or write
But I got every creed and type, you need a dyke, babygirl I see the light
But sometime y'all get crimey crimey, grimy grimy
But those with a tiny hiney they get whiny whiny
So guard your girl, Harlem World, cock the gun, pop it son
Fila fam, illa players, Killa Cam is still the man

I haven't heard S.D.E. but Confessions of Fire is one of the worst pieces of crap I've ever heard in my life. That "Fuck You" song is pretty funny though.

SDE no doubt. The joint with him and prodigy is a favorite.
