Pharoahe Monch vs. GZA

Yeah I know I'm a rude thoughtless little pig for making you decide. Both are some of the best lyricist. Both have the catalogs and the longevity.

Gza's unfuckwitable storytelling over Monch's flow personally.

huuuuge Genius fan right here.. but voted Monch.

Truth is anything Gza does Monch does just as well or close.

Voted Monch for his diversity in delivery and his murderously quick styles.

GZA's fell off, but Monch's almost as good as he was in his prime still, as evidenced by that mixtape he put out with Clinton Sparks. GZA isn't nearly as good as he was from Enter the 36 Chambers --> Liquid Swords --> Wu Tang Forever.

I'll take the best from Monch over anyone anyday. I mean his second verse from Prisoners of War>>> Pretty much everything....but the Gza is always consistent. Rarely do I hear anything I didn't like from him while Momch has dropped some ??? shit. I still voted Monch though

true at 2nd verse from prisoners of war, except that the 2nd verse on releasing hypnotical gasses is even MORE gawdly

speaking of prisoners of war, they sampled from babe ruth (the mexican) on that joint, and babe ruth-first base is one of the most slept on funky rock albums of all time

GZA for consistency. I think Monch has a couple verses that are fuckin ridiculous but he really fell off. We'll see how his new album does.. but gza is unfuckwithable...

uh. how exactly did monche fall off? by not releasing an album because he was screwed by 239014871234 different labels?

what has gza dropped in the last five years that even comes close to something like agent orange or desire or push?

GZA. I know Monche got him on dynamic flow but GZA got too many quotables and verses to Monche. Plus MOnche has 2 solos and 3 OK albums compared to GZA's 5 albums and tons of Wu Verses. Y'all gotta re-think the output of the two for real for real.

Tied up huh?

I went with GZA, because I think his catalog as a whole is greater.

Words from the Genius
Verses on 36 Chambers
Liquid Swords
Verses on Forever
Beneath The Surface
Verses on The W
Legend of the Liquid Sword
Verses on Iron Flag

I didn't like Grandmasters (unlike 99% of this site), but the above material is pretty unfuckwitable from an emceeing standpoint.

Pharoahe is great, but I look at the ability to get your material OUT TO THE PUBLIC as somewhat important in an emcee. Pharoahe actually debuted before GZA, but has waaaay less to show for it in terms of actual released product.

Not for nothing yo but Gza is kinda boring...and this is coming from a dense ass space rapper speaking as a big Wutang fan.

it's easy to stay at the top when you only release 3 songs in 5 years. & recent monche shit isn't even that impressive. grandmasters easily trumps what monche's done lately. also, legend of the liquid sword is forgotten because of the beats & a bunch of random hooks, but gza's performance is stellar. monche IS one of the greatest, but gza has a ton more top notch shit out. like someone else said, the ability to deliver your music to listeners comes into play.

& icesickle is hilarious in this thread, trying to downplay the fuckin gza. i mean i get it man, you think what you think and all, but your opinions basically scream Never Hang Out With This Dude Ever. on a crusade against the gza, who the fuck does that?

Vote: GZA

Like it's already been mentioned, GZA has much more classic/near-classic material than Monch. Thats not taking anything away from Monch's technical skill as an emcee, which is near perfect, but he just doesn't do enough. This upcoming release of his album Desire has the potential to change my opinion, but we'll see

BTW, whats the release date for his new album, wasn't it supposed to be May 1st?

so basically arguments for gza have come down to quantity over quality.

need i say more?
grandmasters easily trumps what monche's done lately.
what the fuck is this cat talking about
grandmasters was garbage son

gza's sounded bored as fuck on the mic for years

next you gonna tell us that gza's guest verse's on the JMT songs were imspectabulous

liquid swords is a top 10 album of all time for me. but im sorry, as an emcee's emcee, pharoah is the best to ever do it. it's that simple. nobody's ever done what he's done how he's done it on the microphone. ever.
