RZA releases "Gone," a memorial.
Wu-Tang production mastermind, aspiring filmmaker and L.A. resident RZA has released a new free song called "Gone," which he's dedicated to Sally Menke, the longtime editor of Quentin Tarantino's films who passed away last week.
Via his Facebook profile, RZA first announced he's "starting a new tradition on #WuWednesday," when he'll "share a thought and a song."
This week's track features Finger Eleven guitarist James Black, singer Justin Nozuka and rapper Kobra Khan, along with RZA himself. And in a followup post, he included a special message:
I dedicate the song "Gone" to my friend Sally Menke and its my gift to her memory. I feel music is the best gift I can give and I'm giving it away to Wu-Disciples for free in her name. Who ever like the song can send a blessing of positive energy to Sally's family and her legacy. Peace.
While the song doesn't appear to be explicitly about Menke -- Tarantino has been something of a mentor to RZA, and Menke was one of the director's closest collaborators -- it features touching verses "about our dear people who have left this life to join the infinite."
