An Exploration of Modern Horrorcore
A pretty shitty genre even in its prime, but horrocore is fun once in a long while. The days of horrorcore rappers actually being skilled seem to be long gone, but there have to be a few guys out there who can actually rap, right?
I'm specifically talking about emcees like Brotha Lynch Hung, Esham and NIP, who could flow their asses off and entertain us for a full LP without being incredibly boring and repetitve. It seems like rappers dont even dabble in the shit anymore like Big L, Big Pun, Eminem and Three 6 Mafia (and thier many derivatives) used to.
I am also specifically not talking about Necro or Insance Clown Posse or King Gordy (whites and hacks).
Let's try to compile a list of Modern Horrocore Rappers who are neither terrible nor cracker.
My first submission is Sutter Kain (aka DJ Bless). Great John Carpenter name, captivating flow, wittiness, creative violence, solid but not overdone visuals and a lack of (relative) cheesiness. His beats have a decidedly metal bent, but they pretty much always bang.
Here is a non-Kain Bless track so you have an idea of his skills under normal circumstances:
Blowin Up The Spot ft. Jimmy Snooka
<object width="425" height="349"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/F0CGH2SpBNQ&bo ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/F0CGH2SpBNQ&bo ... edded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="349"></embed></object>
Slaughterhouse
<object width="425" height="349"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/c7AGJMYnkCE&bo ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/c7AGJMYnkCE&bo ... edded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="349"></embed></object>
Kain Made Me Do It
<object width="425" height="349"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/a7x7RTxeU7I&bo ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/a7x7RTxeU7I&bo ... edded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="349"></embed></object>
These two videos here are pretty gory, well really really gory and his style is a little more aggressive:
Cannibal Ferox
<object width="425" height="349"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ETUmqd4tpA0&bo ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ETUmqd4tpA0&bo ... edded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="349"></embed></object>
August Underground (you probably dont want to watch this)
<object width="425" height="349"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/lx8ojOnxX54&bo ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/lx8ojOnxX54&bo ... edded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="349"></embed></object>

cmon Blast. Sutter Cain? One of my best friends from childhood is part of NSD. I checked it out to be a friend to a friend and even he told me it was okay to laugh. They are just terrible and thats coming from a pasteoid metalhead.
how come Insane Poetry never gets any love?
as far as modern horrorcore the only two emcees who fuck with it that I can bop to is Goretex (if you even wanna label him that) and DZK.

Who is your friend?
Bless is good peoples and the Kain shit is fun for everyone. Im trying to start an NSD trend starting with Snook and eventually Agency 1994. Dont derail my plans so early!
Insane Poetry gets respect in proper circles. Fallen From Grace was a solid return to form. Cyco has a solo album coming out on NSD right?

Looks like its out already, and it sounds just like the last two Sutter Kain albums, and Bless is all over it.

One of the better tracks from Fallen From Grace:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/U8CVu6gaKBQ&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/U8CVu6gaKBQ&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Its no "How Ya Gonna Reason With A Psycho", but it goes.
Anyway, Back to the topic at hand, Goretex is terrible.

Too bad the Monstar Mob didnt stay together.
If you're going to talk horrorcore you have to mention the shermicidal comic book genius insanity of Long Beach veteran Anthony Brown aka Warcloud and his lofi opus Smuggling Booze in the Graveyard.
This is the best horrorcore rap song ever made, the flow in the last verse fucking DESTROYS.
Warcloud- Vampire Kung-Fu http://www.zshare.net/audio/53499778e002dabc/

i'm a huge holocaust fan, and i wouldn't classify him as horrorcore by any means. that song you posted is a holocaust classic tho, love it.Fuzzy Logic wrote:Too bad the Monstar Mob didnt stay together.

that august underground video was pretty intense. saw a few clips from 'mordum' in there.....most fucked up movie i've ever seen.
this kain guy is alright. wouldn't mind hearing more of his non extreme shit. his horrorcore shit is in the same vein as bomshot (lyrically). who i'm not a fan of that much. kain and bomshot go way further than the necro camp with their graphic depictions (pedophelia references etc..)

my buddy is Bacon from NSD. he does all their web design and runs their street team. Hes a South Carolina kid. I couldnt find anything from NSD worth a second spin and have been suprised that anyone could really enjoy these dudes outside of Juggalos who grew out of ICP. The music just seemed real contrived and blase. Not an original idea whatsoever.
and Im well aware of the PLR camps hate and all. i really dont care for Necro but to me Goretex was always interesting with his lyrics because it was always full of obscure doom metal references and general cult knowledge that you wouldnt have a clue as to what he was talking about in his rhymes if you werent a hardcore metal fan. add that to the fact he had a more cinematic flow and more of a dusted obscure edge than the rest of his crew. I always found him to be the most intersting with rhymes from that whole camp.
Im not really into all this shit but im well aware of it and in my opinion
PLR >>>>>>>>NSD x 75640756-14789745458923
plus add in the fact that Sutter Kain/Dj Bless is the son of a millionaire doctor from Spartanburg SC who never walked a ghetto street in his entire life and bit his whole Kain gimmick from Lhus Disciple. I just think hes trying to pimp into the suburban dollars after he failed at hiphop time and again.

A lot of serial killer references if you enjoy that kinda thing
The watchtower track is from lodeck's album dream dentistry.
Blockhead produced the illest song on that album IMO.

i haven't been in contact with him in a while. he put out an album last year that big deep did all the beats on. it had some joints i really liked on it. the thing about jak is that he's pretty clever. i think some people write him of due to his content but he says some amazing shit. he's to serial killer rappers what the clipse are to coke selling rappers. as tired as the topic can get, he finds a way to keep it interesting.lay-lo wrote: Do you have any recent info on jak, block?

I talked to life long a few months ago and he said the same thing about jak. That random violence album has a few weak spots where the beats lack but not the rhymes.Fukers should stop pigeonholing teh rap music.
I fuking love metal and hardcore but those things came later for me(and probably most of you guys). The self hating pasteoid thing on this board is hella funny but yall take it too far.Bring the rossi wine and get 2009.
Good shit is good shit.
