where i'm from, while done before, is a good idea.
is it comical, serious? both?
i would prefer to be much more nerdy. find all the people who are 100% down. make a thread/forum for them to discuss in. come up with a story/concept of sorts where each mc can play a role. on some res-ov-war dogs shit. but maybe minus the murder. or not. basically like the story idea presented before, but we figure out the dedicated people and come up with the story outline together and agree on it then let mcs take their own.. um.. take on the part they are given.
or we can rap about bitches.

Yeah I don't mean to be a jerk but can we just forget about doing advanced dungeons and dragons space backpacker bullshit and focus on making a dope rap song? Is it too much to ask that we stick to a basic, familiar rap theme? Thx in advance. Feel free to start a different thread for your Choose your Own Adventure rap ideas though.
Not sure if you're kidding because your humor is always advanced, but this song isn't so much a PF anthem as it is a collaboration of people on this board, so why would we give one fuck about what people entirely uninvolved in the creative process think?Cleanhobo wrote:I think all ofshould be able to vote on which verses make the cut, not just one producer. Philaflava is a democracy, my damies. What happened to everyone having a voice? Wasn't that a banner?
If you're kiddng: LOLzers

For real though, I should have a say in it. I'm only like the motherfucking Phil Spector of these damn boards.

i think my post was about a way to come up with a cohesive concept track when none of the mcs or producers will meet.
but hell, what do i know about rap. srsly.
I'm not questioning your knowledge of rap but based on your posts in this thread I'm definitely going to have to question your notion of cohesiveness.
Since none of us are going to make money off this collaboration I think it is wise for us to make a song that people will actually want to listen to and can relate to ... your idea is in the category of "space/dungeons and dragons/lyrical miracle" as far as I'm concerned, and I think most would agree. It is a concept that should stay in your notebook and never be released for any kind of consumption, internet or otherwise.
You may of course try your hardest to rally people around your idea if you like, but the collaboration announced in this thread should stick to a nice wholesome, digestible theme like "Where I'm From" which is familiar but can be executed with a new twist if people brainstorm hard enough.

Dun, it's a good track, i just personally wouldn't choose it because I wouldn't sound good over it. The recording is excellent though, and the whole sound of it is original and fresh, you've got serious skills.Maybe others will like it and want to rhyme on it, there's no need to settle on one beat.AWAE wrote:i was trying to inject some grime.. thats cool thoParagraph President wrote:AWAE - your beat is pretty dope but I don't think it would suit a posse cut very well. Something about the drums seems kind of rigid to me too. Not a bad track though.
Edit: you know I just replayed it and who the fuck am I kidding? This shit is great. Sorry for my waffling, I first listened to it mad late last night. Dope shit, though some emcees I could see being overpowered by this beat.

That's fine Thun, but know this: when I talk... people listen. I got pull. I make moves. Things happen when I'm around.Paragraph President wrote:Cleanhobo wrote:

It's in the same arena as "Space Rap," certainly. It's cool and all if you dig that kind of approach, I just happen to think it typically comes off as contrived and corny. Just my opinion. Siah and Yeshua had a track with a similar concept years ago and it just barely avoided being gay space rap. I don't think there are enough gully/grimy cats on this board to pull of an quality entertaining crime saga, so I can only imagine that the story would evolve into some sword-n-sorcery fantasy crap or some suburban tale of angst. It's not that nay one of us are incapable of telling stories, I just doubt that all of us could come together for a particular narrative that suits all of us.

"Long Kiss Goodnight" sample? I'm 98% sure it is, but I can't turn it up loud enough at work. Nice beat.AWAE wrote:i was trying to inject some grime.. thats cool thoParagraph President wrote:AWAE - your beat is pretty dope but I don't think it would suit a posse cut very well. My contributions to be considered for this project:
"The Clip"
http://download.yousendit.com/B038B74A5589A04D
"Wrong"
http://download.yousendit.com/93C2ADFE6C5886CE
"A 'G' Thing" - entry for the upcoming beat battle in the Sound Lab
http://download.yousendit.com/C61104BB30C9B557
In addition, some of my other music can be found here:
www.soundclick.com/mesbeats
All are unmixed, imported straight from FruityLoops. My setup isn't too conducive to mixing. If the beats aren't suitable, maybe I can get a verse on there.

dungeonsndragons/space rap = rhyming about some shit that wouldn't/couldn't happen in the real world. Taking on a role that is alien to you. The "true" school of rap implies that you should "manifest things that [you] saw, did, or heard about, or told first hand - never word of mouth." Basically "keeping it real" or somewhat based in reality. Thun's not saying a combined story type of cut couldn't happen, he's saying it could quickly turn into fantasy-land (and given the philaflava emcees he's certain that it would).

I had an idea about the beat...
if we could agree on a tempo...
producers could make loops up of that tempo
each of us pick loops that we wanted to rock over... cuz say (if we did where i'm from) a beat that fits real well when somebody's talking about NY could be real different from someone describing South Carolina, or Seoul Korea, or the pacific northwest. Producers could go with the mood they wanted for the beat, several producers would get a chance to shine as well as several emcees, but it would all be one theme and one song (and it wouldn't be repetative).
then we'd just have to find a way to transition from beat to beat (producers, engineers & djs any ideas?)
just a thought
