So all of a sudden basic rhymes are a problem? Can I ask when this happened?

Can someone PLEASE provide some sort of real-time update as to whether or not skilled rapping is praiseworthy at any given moment? I've been clamoring for this for years.

MB:

"Everybody got a deal, I did it without one"

To be credible, you shouldn't say things in your music that are NOT true.
It's similiar to Game saying woke up in 2001, right after Dre released 2001(in 1999). Shit like that just shows, IGNORANCE.

Drake would be shit alone. Without his teams. Management. Publishing. Those deals are the same in what they do.

Admit this MB.

Tell me that cat could do ANYTHING alone besides jack off.

I know more about the industry than your average rapper, fan, promoter, or manager combined. Drake is part of a machine. Tell me I'm wrong.

That's my only beef. Hypocrites will always get denounced.
Don't get me wrong, Drake is enjoyable most of the time IMO.
But I will still get pissed off at my best-friend if he fronts about something untrue.

yeah, it's a BIT of a stretch to say he did this with no record deal. But in some ways he DID do a lot of his stuff with no record deal. He was the first independent artist EVER on BET to have a song reach #1 on the 106 and Park countdown without being signed ('Replacement Girl' with Trey Songz) and he did have the biggest song of 2009, and it was a song off a mixtape ('Best I Ever Had').

But I mean, it's not that much of a stretch. Drake IS part of a machine, but whatever. He started out on TV with fame and fortune above every other indie artist both Canadian and American, so he never was the "independent" MC he claimed to be. But he still had a path different than any other rapper.

i ain't mad at him

And neither am I.
I remember his old songs on myspace, being different, still on some r&b influence, but flow and approach were different. He rode a wave in, sort of.

it's all good. I will listen to it regardless to hear for myself obviously.

see, you don't get it. but that's not surprising. you often don't even TRY to get it, so I know why you waver between wack and half-decent.

if it was any other hater making the song, I wouldn't even post it.
but this is the guy who Drake did music with 2 years ago, plus Drake was on the hook of this guy's song 'I'm So Fly', which most Drake fans know about.

plus, the stuff he's saying in the record is real. Drake did have to go to court for the robbery that happened. It was at a restaurant not far from my house.

it's not just random shit talk, like what most people do these days. there is some substance to this dis record... but only a fraction of people care about the REAL truth being heard on record anymore. People will accept pure fabricated exaggerated bullshit if its got a tight flow.

rap is outta control but i'ma still go listen to 'Light It Up' to hear what my Tone Mason homies produced for the Jiggamayne :megaman:

interesting...from what i've heard of the story from people, page has somewhat of a right to be a little disgruntled, but then again i don't know the whole story

What a terrible song. I feel like an idiot for listening.

Drake was at the Stylus Awards today. It's like Canada's BET Awards, but for DJ's only. It is kinda fuckin dope that we have it, even though this year wasn't as good as last year.

Drake's crew had some kind of drama and beef with Page's crew, the guy who did that dis track I posted.

little scuffle in the hallway on some Source Awards shit, but nobody knows yet what all went down. i think they said Drake's peoples got into it, but he didn't, and Page wasn't there either, but his homies were.

Drake did take a shot at him though, when he went to pick up his award for 'Best I Ever Had', on some Jay-Z, parting comments warning shot shit:

"...*Drake gives a good speech about Canada and representing Toronto*...oh, and last thing: anyone who isn't here in this room doesn't represent the city right" or something to that effect, but it was an obvious shot to the dude dissing him.

Canadian rap is outta control now, yay!

I'm from Toronto, and Drake is a good look for the city, but seriously, ain't nothing change if this dude comes out with an album. It'll probably be a boring album filled with auto-tune wackness.

Is there anything good in rap besides Jay Electronica? Yikes.
Quinton of Pharcyde fame is the one who started the "I'm not a rapper" trend.
