It's Madlib on helium, and it's beyond classic, although not on the :phila: .

If you count the "Unseen" LP, plus all of the b-sides, remixes, appearances, and unreleased shit, there are close to 40 classic Quasimoto tracks that were made between the years of 1997 and 2000.

I'd ordinarily say that you just can't trust a guy who would sleep on such obvious classics, but realistically, it's an acquired taste. I could never blame anyone for dismissing it after a few listens.
it also doesnt help that i hate his name....which is kinda ironic coming from someone named alaska.

You ain't never heard "Trackrunners" from 1998 with J-Live and Grap Luva?

Another obvious classic.

Maybe it's because I had Kevin Beacham on my FM dial for three hours every week, I don't know. Then again, this shit was on plenty of mixtapes back in the late 90s.

I can't think of any names that start with a Q that I actually like. Maybe Quentin.

Smooth B - i never liked smooth b, i feel like he fucked up dwyck. I saw him back in like 98 at the mcdonalds across the street from fat beats, he looked cracked out and looked in the garbage can, maybe he threw away his retainer but im thinking he was looking for a nugget.

Jay is a tremendous mc. i still think his earlier work is a bit overrated and didnt age that well. the blueprint is a good album but its not as good as the blueprint 2 and the black album. he has insane flows, more styles than anyone, great voice, killer ear for beats, and writes great hooks. the dude can do any kind of song. he is top 5 for me. better than pretty much everyone but slick rick, andre, ghost. that being said i hated his last two records so very boring and uninspired. one day i do hope to be a part owner in the nets with him....its in my 20 year plan, especially now that im on sabbatical and can get back into making real money..hahaha.

Dinco D - was my favorite member of LONS who i always thought were horribly overrated.

Greg Nice - he is a great nonsensical mc in the classic party starter mode. 20 years from now you can have greg nice on a track and it will still ad to it, as long as you only keep him on the hook. great voice and always fun, but not much more than a novelty in my mind

Sadat X - best voice ever in rap. i have always loved sadat. the record he dropped before he went to prison was absolutely amazing. so funny and sincere. he might not be the best technical rapper ever, or have the craziest styles but he has personality and presense for days. the highlight of my career was doing a track with sadat and that he came out and rocked it with us twice. he is a really cool cat and had so many good stories when he came out to pawls crib and recorded the track. we drank and smoked with him and mark the spark (a name you will know if you are a brand nubian fan, he didnt rhyme but got more than enough mentions on the records) they told us the best stories for hours on end.

Craig G. a good battle rapper but thats about it. i mean he was the worst verse on the symphony and his albums are kinda lackluster.

he is one of those guys i dont really check for but i really enjoy everytime i hear him. his style is absolutely bonkers. can go from scaramenga to menilink which shows tons of range. very stream of conscious which i like a lot.

Instead of just asking you whats your thoughts on random (insert 90's obscure battle circuit mc) I figured I'll ask you who you think is really impressive right now? Also, who do you think is really nice on a technical level (patterns, syllables etc.)?

right now the people im feeling that are current, in no particular order are

andre 3000
print
jimmy jamz from brother reade
camp lo
cage
aes
el
jestoneart
kbetta
bobby sonz
kanye
prodigy
yak
murs
pirate signal
dez
lif

shit there are probably more but thats pretty much who i have been listening too lately hip hop wise.

on a technical level i mean probably the same guys i have put up there. there are always the guys who inspired me people like del, souls, kane, organized, jay, breezly brewin, j treds, ghost, rae, deck, kurupt, el, illogic, special ed was a big influence, i mean there are just so many.

i have never really been a huge fan of the people that multi just for the sake of it or dudes that might have a sick pattern but its the same pattern everytime, i mean a dude like AZ is fresh as fuck on lifes a bitch but he has been using that same template since. same thing as mop and your non phixions and the like. they are all talented and have skills but it doesnt appeal to my sensiblities for a whole record. i can check for a song or two then im done.

"dudes that might have a sick pattern but its the same pattern everytime"

Hmm thats a really good point. I think thats something thats overlooked a lot. There are quite a few of them out there as a matter of fact.

List is cool, definitely some people on there that I have not heard of. Will have to check up on their shit.
