The Lab: What's your set up?
I've decided to get back into making tracks, about a year after I lost interest and pawned my Triton for emergency tuition money. By the time I stopped I had never really delved into software.
So I'm curious; what's your set up? What equipment do you use? Hardware, Software, Monitors etc. Be as specific or non specific as you wish, but the more detailed the better.

- numark ttx1 turntables
- numark dxm 06 mixer
- roland jx-305 synth (never really use it)
- hp pc, pentium 3.06ghz processor and 512mb ram (definitely need to upgrade my ram)
- generic sound card
- pioneer surround sound system (my goal this year is to cop some monitors)
- fl studio 6
- lots of vsti's...korg legacy, hypersonic v2, sampletank, etc
- acid pro 6.0 (great for remixing and mashups)
- reason (don't really use much, but some dope synths in there)
- sound forge 8.0
- about 9 crates of records and counting
i've owned a mpc, switched back to pc since i felt like it had more options and got things done a lot quicker.

Yeah I still have my MPC3000 but at this point, it seems most people are using software so I might sell it to buy some legit non cracked programs. So is your stuff mostly sample based?
Thanks for the post.

MPC2000xl
PowerMac G4 1gig, somewhere over 512mb of ram
Reason
Cubase SE
Conn Starduster organ
I think they're tt2 numarks, I'm not really sure I got them so long ago, they're direct drives whatever they are...
Records, a fair amount
Tascam US428 interface
and then my roomate, who also makes beats has other stuff which I have access to, like a Triton, MicroKorg, and some other shit like a compressor, mics, etc.
We're both still adding to our respective collections though with time.
edit: oh yeah, and I have a few guitars.

Ayo, how exactly do you have your shit set up...as far as your chain goes? I'd like to know how you run samples through there. Right now I just got my turntable going into my mixer into my interface and record with PT.
Would I plug my mixer into my Voicemaster Pro, and then that out and into my interface?
I'm intriqued...cuz if I can get samples to run through there...I can do a lot of eq'n and cleaning up on the go.
Let me know...appreciate it, 1ne
It's pretty good. We both have different rooms for our equipment so that each of us can work at the same time out of headphones. It's also nice, because if I get stuck on something, or it just doesn't sound right, I can get a clean set of ears to give an opinion on what is lacking/overbearing.Brazen wrote: A roommate that makes beats as well? Brazen - i run my table in through the mixer then through the main instrument input on the front left of the voicemaster. it sweetens the sound up quite marvelously, i find. the harmonics settings are awfully cool for voice and guitar use as well. the de-esser's a bit obtrusive, but the compressor and expander more than make up for it.
hope that helps.
deuces.

Eurorack mx 602a,just a little cheap one that was bought with the intention of running a mic through it
I do my fine tuning in CE,along with eqing drums, because Im too lazy to take them back into FL,I use my major sound-altering mixing in FL such as bassboosting, compression, reverb and if I just want to isolate one sound I use the voxengo curve eq in there,it helps me shake loose certain elements that I improve upon in CE

outboard:
crappy midi keyboard that'll be replaced soon
shitty headphones that'll be replaced soon
elektron monomachine
technics 1200
stanton mixer i dream of replacing someday, but it does its job
records
Macbook Pro running:
ableton live 5
logic pro 7
lots of things i need. i don't even have monitors because i don't have a desk. or space for one. hope to fix that soon.

Really man, that's awesome to me. Almost the equivalent of having a Hip Hop enthusiast/ fanatic/ mc girlfriend. ALMOST. With the most obvious fact, you can grind your girlfriend lol.
But that's hot though

Yeah, like I said, it's cool. I think the best part is that we've only been asked to turn the sound down once by the neighbors, and that was at 4am, so they're fairly cool with our ruckus. That and we really only have that one neighbor. On one side of the house there's a decent sized parking lot and across the street (we're on a corner) there's a parking garage, so it's all good since the neighbors don't mind. Not bad at all for $1250 a month.

It's not a nice neighborhood by any means, I had to kick five homeless guys off of my porch today that were chillin' drinking forty's at 7 in the morning. It's alright though, and it's close to the nightlife.Brazen wrote: GOT DAMN! Y'all bankin it in a nice neighborhood.
