Re: Rolling Check-in 2015 (formerly Check-in 2013-14)
All wisdom teeth pulled out, nothing to do but talk shit on the internet:
Future - DS2 (Dirty Sprite II)

I know it's early BUT he probably should've left the esteemed Dirty Sprite name alone (though how often does the sequel not sully the name of the original?)
I suppose one shouldn't complain as he's released some really great music over the past 1.5 - 2 years (March Madness x Trap Niggas x 56 Nights are a daily mantra).
Mozzy - Gangland Landscape

Mozzy came right out the penn and dropped this in a hurry. It doesn't sound rushed, necessarily, but it doesn't have the same horsepower that Goonbody Embodiment packed (which is surprising because a more mature and refined Juneonnabeat is all over this thing. Maybe too refined.)
Also, I don't judge the morality of music (or art in general) but I was a little surprised to hear 16 straight tracks of murder music. The theme didn't change from his last one (and maybe it never will) almost to the point of monotony. I don't care what an artist talks about as long as it's compelling but I suspect that he is capable of more.
AOne - Dope As Coke

Keak da Sneak's young charge pushes himself into the same league as Northern Cali fan favorites Philthy Rich, HD of Bearfaced, Joe Blow, Mozzy, A-Wax, etc. Built on traditional Mob scaffolding (no jerk, ratchet, cloud rap) the kid constructed one of the top Bay releases this year. Play this with his pre-album mixtape, "Dope as Coke: The Leak" for best affect (and for a gorgeous J-A collab, ""Real Mob")
Nipssey Hussle - MailBox Money

Perhaps I haven't heard everything from his back-catalog that I need to, but I think Nippsey Hussle's current incarnation is by far more compelling than what he was before-hand *ducks rocks*. Maybe it's just my personal preference for Thug Motivation raps. Either way, top 3 release of the year for me.
Rico Love - Turn The Lights On

Swing and a miss. Holy shit, man.
I mean, Goddamn.
Dom Kennedy - By Dom Kennedy

"Fried Lobster" at absurd levels. Previously released tracks, "Represent (I Like That) and "Posted in the Club" still sound great in this context. Had to pay the kid for this one. Well done, sir.
JMSN - (The Blue Album)

Never followed until jukeboxvandal posted the "Bout It" video in this thread. Bemused and intrigued for about a week, I downloaded, JMSN (The Blue Album), and realized he's no joke.
On a side note, really impressed with the new crop of kids who produce/ write/ perform their own shit (The Weeknd, PARTYNEXTDOOR, JMSN, probably leaving out a few as I'm not an R&B guy, but props are deserved).
HD of Bearfaced - Thank You Vol. 1

Misc and unreleased from Ice City's own. A welcomed gift. Thank You! *HD voice*
Lil Monie - Oakland Animal

Staying in Oakland, we have Lil Monie's whole discography uploaded to Datpiff. Really caught my ear on Lil Blood's, "Smiles and Frowns" last year. Discog contains most everything except a couple omissions like, "Psycho" with Joe Blow & Cellski and "I'm Trife"
Also, I can't tell if this kid is locked up or free & releasing music on Youtube through odd user-names like BESTRAPPERALIVE PART2 and Auntie Watson.
In any event, this has held me down nicely while waiting for Lil AJ's "Lash Money" project.
Mozzy - Bladadah

Too early to call it but this may be the rightful successor to Goonbody Embodiment. Welcome back, sir.
And yes, the cover is horrible (I mean, that's an AK-47 magazine stuffed in an AR-15 for godsakes)

i always thought lil monie was awful
Re: Rolling Check-in 2015 (formerly Check-in 2013-14)
Monie definitely grew on me.
Must be the meds because I forgot,
Possibly my most played project this year:
Fat Trel - Georgetown

One could bemoan Fat Trel's lack of consistency but why complain when he's releasing music like this?? I'm Da Type x I'm Ill x Murder Gardenz
This finally sounds like the same kid that did "Respect with the Tec" or at least a progression from there (as opposed to whatever weird detours he's been on).

I'm completely unfamiliar, but I imagine the pairing of that duo frustrates a lot of people.
Does Sean House work with any other rappers? Forgive me for being late & Square.

sean's been making beats for a number of years but has mostly only worked with underground rappers from vancouver.
