I'll break this down to you even though you've bitched about it and haven't been smart enough to troll with some good facts yet. Yes, sponsors come through with money for these vids because of the views certain battle league channels. Google pays these battle leagues an understandable amount each month for battles that get a certain number of views. People that want to advertise whatever their products are at the events and also with ads when footage comes out. Also, battlers that may have music coming out, they advertise their music as well in case someone watches it thinks "oh I like battle rapper A" and wants to check out their music. Case in point: its a growing scene and if you don't like it, don't fuck with it.

I, personally, think battle rappers that try to make it in the industry are stupid. They should just focus on turning battle rap into big business, but nobody actually wants to work at doing things. So they rather try to make music, a few will get signed (some have already), get a 360 deal, get fucked in the ass, and be broke with no album to ever see a release date. Unless you're established, you're not making any money in music right now, except for live shows. And the average rapper who doesn't have a hit makes less than 500 a show (In the states). The big time battlers in URL make 7 K for mainevents. It'll take 14 shows and hours and hours of performing to equal what they'd make for one URL battle, that'll be 9 minutes of their time.

Only one right now that I think has a real shot of being more than a run-of-the-mill-signed-to-a-major-rapper is Tsu Surf. Who is generating a pretty decent buzz with his music. I can actually see him turning to a Kendrick Lamar type (Not in terms of rapping style/music wise, I just mean in terms of having a nice cult following in both the underground and some mainstream)
Tsu Surf sounds better on record than he does battling. Him and Shotgun Suge are that way. I could see that. Me, personally, I think Hitman Holla could based on his mixtape stuff I've heard him do. Maybe even Hollow Da Don as well.

Another problem with some of these dudes that make music is that some of them still battle on a beat constantly. Its like they don't let up from battling and focus on concepts and other things in a song. But the best music, IMO, has been from Bender of Flight Distance, O.G. Hindu Kush (Loe Pesci and Osa), Soul Khan, Knamelis, Marv Won, Phranchyze, Ness Lee, Rheteric Ramirez, Dumbfoundead, Arcane, and Tantrum.

another fail on canibus' part. man is desperately trying to get his name out now, which is saddening.

i just hope he doesn't start going over people's heads in the battle and maintains coherence just for his own dignity.

i HATE the battle scene..maybe because i got into music by battling back in the pre-8Mile days before it got completely corny and fully written like it is today...

my homie Real Deal is doing his thing in the battle game right now..its wild seeing him go from just another lost in the shuffle local PGH rapper to at least have a little more reason to do this shit. I cant watch his battles tho, the avg battle just doesnt impress me anymore.

where H-Bomb at? homie used to kill me

Of course, there's some downsides to the battle scene now. Some of these kids do not grasp the fact that you should have certain things to be a good emcee. And they try to separate the traits of being a battle emcee/rapper from a battler; which makes no sense because its one in the same. They're dependent upon written material and being more so private investigators than showing some actual skills. Some of them get wrapped up in the politics of the views on YouTube, their records of wins/losses, the leagues, overcharging for battles (leagues and battlers included), and etc. rather than focusing on developing themselves as emcees. Or better yet even trying to make music.

Real Deal is definitely a beast. I can't wait til I see his battle with Money Bagz though and if he'll be in the URL.

I'm a fan of the new age battle rap.

Sue me.

Dudes like 24/7 who actually got bars, structure, and DOPE punchlines (and yes, they DO go over a lot of dude's heads), Johnny Storm, Illmac and a few others are kinda dope.

Dizaster is THE worst battle rapper I have heard in my life. EVER.

Dude is just as bad as Arsonal who also rambles on for 20 minutes and has one dope punchline every 5 mins.

I have no idea why these dudes are rated so highly. Entertaining? NO

Boring as bat shit and just plain annoying.

I would rather see Canibus battle Conceited or some other decent 'rapper'.

I don't count him in the battle scene sometimes because it seems like he's done more than just that. But yeah, I'll include him and Wreckonize (now that he's a part of Mayday!).

on the flipside of that coin...

pre 8-mile days, often consisted of dudes using 85% filler lines, trying desperately to think of a clever line in between, and often struggled to keep any kind of structure to their raps.

shout out to the big homie, but i have no desire to watch these kinds of battles.

* SIGNIFICANTLY more then ANY battle rapper has in close to a decade, straight up.. Almost triple the salary of most top tier. Can't discuss numbers due to contractual reasons, but it's more then some famous rappers get for shows/entire tours.

* Once again, can't discuss numbers but he stands to make more $ then most active top tier battlers as well.

* If he doesn't I will be very disappointed.

And Gloss, yes, there are only afew people in the world who eat off of battle rap and live genuinely comfortable lives.

Yo, Lush, as an avid follower of what you been doing, please get the following battlers some KOTD Fresh Coast battles:

- Stainless
- Michael White
- Andari
- Glympse Automatic

I feel like these cats stand out more than what people seem to know. Congrads on this new move you've made. Peace.

Not all the emcees are Canadian at every KOTD event. Starting out, that was more so the case but over the years, battlers from the US, UK, Austrailia, and etc. have all made appearances at these events.

Right now, KOTD has the best presence as far as quality and according to battlers and hosts, they've handled their business in the best way. And since Lush has always had a good relationship with them and things with GT were getting crazy, he made a smart move. Is that about it, Lush? Correct me if I'm wrong.

You should say this joke at a URL/SMACK event. It might go over well.
