version from Lost TapesDavid wrote:Which version of No Idea's Original is this? The one that was on Lost Tapes or the one that was a bonus on Stillmatic with an extra chorus in the middle and a different beat?
Edit: regardless of the fact that I like Nas more than Ghostface, I agree with Naught's reasoning, and will vote for Ghost.

The Watch is absolutely insane. I mean the idea is original in itself, but I can see another emcee doing it...but only Tony Starks could make it come out as an entertaining psycho conversation like he did. Any other emcee would have made a trite attempt at being "serious" by trying to explain how money is the root of all evil in the track.
Nas' concept was no slouch in itself (well, actually it only works in the lost tapes version since it uses a common breakbeat) but honestly it can't cut the mustard in this one.
definitely "The Watch"

GF at his best isn't even close to Nas at his best.
and that track is definitely Nas at his best.![]()
Nas will never make 2 songs as dope as All that I Got Is You and Mighty Healthy...
Nas alternates with Ghost as my 1st and 2nd favorite MC, but to say Nas at his best kills Ghost at his best is ridiculous.
When Ghost pours his soul out (All That I Got, Impossible) no one is touching him.

I don't think another emcee dead or alive has lyrics that are as good on paper as Nas. Ghost, Rakim and a couple of others come close but Nas' total back catalogue is simply unfuckwitable. Others can outflow him, pick better beats or not drop as many duds, but at his best Nas' words can't really be matched by anyone in his generation.
that said I'm VERY surprised that Ghost is'nt killin him in this contest. The Watch is just a better song to me...

Undying Love is like a slick action movie, all style, no substance.mud wrote:undying love and get downIcesickle wrote:Doogs wrote:I like both tracks and artists and all, but come on you guys...

If I had to name two songs that could compete with the 2 Ghost songs I'd pick Memory Lane and Poppa Was a Playa.
They're almost as good (Poppa Was a Playa is AS good, imo) but I still think Ghost carries a slight edge.
That's not a diss though, cause both those songs would probably make my top 10 hip-hop songs ever.
Millie Pulled a Pistol on Santa
Trying People
Fat Cats, Bigger Fish
All That I Got Is You
Mighty Healthy
Poppa Was a Playa
Memory Lane
Microphone Fiend
God's Bathroom Floor :)
Children's Story
If Poppa Was a Player is #12 out of all the songs on Lost Tapes, you have no soul and can't relate to heartbreak/struggle; point blank.mud wrote:undying love = best storytelling in the history of music
and poppa was a player wouldn't make my top 50 nas tracks...the 12th best song on lost tapes...
And I have the best storytelling tracks on my list:
Millie Pulled a Pistol On Santa
Children's Story
Big Cats, Bigger Fish
